Fireworks return to Somerville’s skies on Tuesday, June 30, at Trum Field for the City’s annual Independence Day celebration featuring live music, food, family-friendly activities, and of course, a fireworks finale!

Festivities will begin at 6 p.m. with live music from Pluto’s Return, a Somerville High School alumni band. DJ Live will follow with a lively mix of pop, soul, funk, and classic hits, and at 7:45 p.m., local funk band Search Party takes the stage.

At approximately 9 p.m., Mayor Jake Wilson will deliver brief remarks, followed by the National Anthem and the official countdown to the fireworks show. Food vendors will be available throughout the evening, including local Somerville favorites, plus classic treats like fried dough and lemonade.

A Heat Advisory is currently in place for Somerville for Thursday, June 11 - Friday, June 12. Feels-like temperatures up to 98 degrees are possible. Please review ways to safe and cool.

-Never leave children or pets alone in the car, even for a quick errand.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Practice sun safety by wearing sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses when outside.
- Find shade whenever possible throughout the day.
- Limit exercise to the early morning or the evening. Avoid strenuous activity during midday when temperatures are usually highest.
- If you are experiencing symptoms of heat illness, such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, cramps, high body temperature, or a fast pulse, get medical help right away and move to a cooler place.
- Be a good neighbor. Check on family, friends, and neighbors, especially older adults, people who live alone, and people with medical conditions.

To help stay cool, you can seek relief from the heat in air-conditioned City buildings. Visit somervillema.gov/keepcool or call 311 (617-666-3311) for more.

All City splash pads are currently open for use with the exception of Lincoln Park. Many Somerville city parks and playgrounds have water features that run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The water sprays are on timers and stop for 20 minutes between cycles.

Looking to cool off during the next few days of hot weather? Somerville’s splash pads are on and ready for use! Many City parks and playgrounds have water spray features including simple single heads, overhead misters, and larger water play elements.

All splash pads are currently open for the summer season, except for Lincoln Park. The water features at Lincoln Park are closed until further notice for maintenance.

Water sprays run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. They are on timers and stop for 20 minutes between cycles. To find a water feature in your neighborhood, visit bit.ly/somersplash.

Somerville’s annual Water System Flushing Program continues today, Monday, June 1st, and continues through late October.

This program consists of flushing pipes at high velocities to clean water mains and maintain the highest possible water quality.

Temporary drops in water pressure and/or discolored water can occur. In these cases, though the water may be discolored, it is safe to drink. Until the water runs clear, it is advisable to avoid washing laundry, especially white fabrics.
