Let's be Friends -- of the Somerville Public Library!

Join us to learn how you can get involved with advocacy, fundaising, and promoting the Somerville Public Library and have fun doing it.

Join us at the Library for a meeting of The Friends of The Somerville Public Library on Thursday, October 17 at 6:30PM. Delicious refreshments will be served.

You may have noticed the book drop has been moved from the side driveway to the courtyard in front of the Library. Here's why:

1. For safety reasons, the drive will be closed to all by construction vehicles as Borough Hall is refurbished.
2. Many library materials were damaged due to moisture and humidity even though the book drop was on a concrete slab. A great many books were discarded as a result.
3. Staff empty the book drop twice a day. The new location is more convenient.

I just heard a old song in a TV ad -- "Faraway Places." The singer longs to visit faraway places with "strange sounding names" he'd been reading about "in a book that I took from shelf." Now, you can visit faraway places by taking one of our Mystery Flights. Works of fiction have been wrapped in maps and labelled with the location in which they are set. It could be anywhere in the world. That's you know until you unwrap it. What a great way to visit those "faraway places." Stop by SPL and embark on a Mystery Flight.
