Yesterday marked the conclusion of the Somonauk Leland Sandwich FFA Chapter’s trip to the 98th Annual Illinois State FFA Convention!

During their time in Springfield, 23 members had the opportunity to connect with FFA members from across Illinois, attend convention sessions, cheer on Lewis Anderson as he performed with the State FFA Choir, cheer on five of our members: Lewis Anderson, Cole Gudmunson, Kiley Mason, Violet Moore, and Destiny Salgado receive their State Degrees, and celebrate our chapter being recognized as a Gold Chapter and one of the Top 10 chapters in the state for FFA Foundation donation collections.

We also had member Myranda Saenz compete in the State FFA Creed Speaking in Spanish Leadership Development Event, earning a 2nd-place finish, while our Quiz Bowl team of Charles Anderson, Sophia DiFaggio, Nolan Kinney, Tyler Wesson, and Tinley Wold competed at the state level and placed 3rd. In addition to the opportunities convention provided, students explored Illinois history at the Old State Capitol Historic Site.

We are proud to represent the Somonauk Leland Sandwich FFA Chapter and are grateful for the experiences, friendships, and memories made throughout this year’s convention.

STATE RUNNER UP:

It has been an exciting start to the 1st day of the 98th Annual Illinois FFA Convention with Myranda Saenz kicking off the day competing in the State Spanish Creed Speaking Contest where she took 2nd in the state!!!

Because of this accomplishment, Myranda will be assisting in the presentation of the flags at the beginning of Session 3 which will take place tomorrow (Wednesday) beginning at 8:00am. If you would like to tune in and watch Myranda please use the link below!

Today we celebrate the incredible moms, grandmothers, and mother figures who encourage, support, and inspire our members every step of the way. Thank you for the early mornings, late nights, endless encouragement, and unwavering belief in your students as they grow into leaders through FFA.

Culver’s 12th annual Scoops of Thanks Day is TODAY. This annual fundraiser invites guests to donate $1 for a scoop of Fresh Frozen Custard, with all proceeds going to support local FFA chapters.

Choose from traditional favorites, vanilla or chocolate, or try the flavor of the day, Blue Barn Brownie! With a tasty deal like that, how could you not stop by?

Tuesday was one of our favorite days of the year, Spring Ag Day! For those who are unfamiliar with the day, Somonauk Leland Sandwich FFA members showcase hands-on ag learning tables, a petting zoo, and machinery used in agriculture. We had approximately 225 total 2nd grade students from all of the Sandwich, Leland, and Somonauk school districts visit us and 66 FFA members teaching them how agriculture impacts their lives every day. Thank you to everyone who helped make it possible!

Our Sandwich Introduction to Agriculture class spent the past three week incubating some chicken eggs. After learning about the incubation process, students got to interact with the chicks that hatched and observe their behavior and mannerisms today.

Last night one of our very own chapter officers, Lewis Anderson, was elected by delegates as Section 7 FFA Secretary! Laynie Wold also retired from Section 7 FFA office as treasurer.

We are also excited to announce that one of our Greenhand Quizbowl teams also won 1st place and will be advancing to STATE in June. Quizbowl members advancing to state include: Charles Anderson, Tinley Wold, Nolan Kinney, Sophia Difaggio, and Tyler Wesson. Our other Quizbowl competitors were Caleb Toto, Micah Skelton, Leah Stolp, and Alex Crum.
