He will discuss his new mystery, the second based in Sonoma, Dark Day, Dark Night.

He will also talk about writing a sequel and bringing back to life characters from a previous book. He will also address the “guilty pleasure" feeling many readers of murder mysteries have.

“B” is for Bikes Storytime
Join us for a special storytime co-presented with friends from the Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition. We will read stories of bicycle adventures and discuss how important (and fun!) it is to learn how to safely ride a bike.

Great for children ages 3-8, with a caregiver. No registration required. Free!

Children build language and literacy skills through the five practices of early literacy: talking, singing, reading, writing and playing.

Steve Taylor-Ramirez Concert
Steve Taylor-Ramírez, a singer-songwriter from Berkeley, CA, has been called a “Critic’s Choice” by the East Bay Express, Bay Area News Group and UC Berkeley. He'll play a mix of folk, Latin and blues. Steve's music can be heard on Pandora.com and has aired on many Bay Area radio stations, including live appearances on NPR’s KALW, KALX and KUSF. A reviewer at the East Bay Express said Steve is known for his “fancy finger picking, weathered vocals…charisma…and socially conscious originals.” That should come as no surprise, as his great grandfather, Ignacio Ramírez, served as an education official for Mexico’s reformist president Francisco I. Madero. Besides Pandora, you can hear his music at www.reverbnation.com/stevetaylorramirez and https://stevetaylorramirez.bandcamp.com/releases."

Author Victoria Golden, A Last Survivor of the Orphan Trains

From 1854 through the early 1930s, American Orphan Trains sent children from urban streets and orphanages into homes along the routes of the new transcontinental rail lines. Unfortunately, families waiting for the trains weren’t always dreams come true—many times they were nightmares.

William was little more than a toddler when his sister deposited him and his brother on an Orphan Train heading to destinations unknown. Separated from his brother and handed over to a cruel New Mexico couple, William faced a terrible trial. Through his strength and resilience, however, his life became a series of remarkable adventures.

When he died in Santa Rosa in 2017, William Walters was among the few remaining survivors of the Orphan Trains that transported 250,000 children from the East Coast into the emerging West over 75 years of American history. His story unfolds in a new memoir co-authored with Victoria Golden, A Last Survivor of the Orphan Trains, published this past summer.

Join us in welcoming co-author Victoria Golden, for a reading from A Last Survivor of the Orphan Trains followed by discussion and Q & A.
