KNOW THE ZONE: What’s the difference between an infested zone and a surveillance zone?

🟨INFESTED ZONE (IZ)
Surrounds a confirmed detection of New World screwworm. Active movement restrictions are in place.

🟦ADJACENT SURVEILLANCE ZONE (ASZ)
Surrounds the infested zone and provides an additional area for monitoring and early detection.
The ASZ generally extends 20 km beyond the perimeter of the infested zone.

On August 16th, an infested zone was established in Val Verde County in association with a NWS detection in a sheep. The zone expands into portions of Crockett and Sutton Counties.

Know before you go!

🛻 Movement requirements are in place to prevent spreading NWS while still allowing normal business to continue safely.
🐄 If you are planning on moving livestock from an infested zone, be sure to follow current movement regulations. Animal movement out of an infested zone requires a NWS Treatment/Movement Certificate.
🔎 These certificates are issued by a veterinarian, state or federal animal health official, or an authorized NWS-Certified Inspector.
📞 Plan ahead. At least two days before expected travel, contact the TAHC or NWS-Certified Inspector to schedule an inspection.

Flood Recovery: Help Us Understand Your Needs

Sutton County Emergency Management has created a Flood Disaster Household Needs Assessment form to help us understand what our community still needs following the July 2026 flood event (Incident 26-0019). This form covers clean-out and demolition help, rebuilding needs, appliances and furniture, and other essentials, and allows us to coordinate with volunteer organizations and relief agencies on possible donations of goods, services, or labor. Completing this form is not a guarantee of assistance, but it helps us direct resources where they're needed most.

If your household was affected, please complete the form and either email it to [email protected] or bring it to the Sutton County Sheriff's Office at 401 E Oak St, Sonora. Copies are also available at the Sheriff's Office if you need one. Thank you for helping us serve our community.

Recuperación tras las inundaciones: ayúdanos a conocer tus necesidades

La Oficina de Gestión de Emergencias del condado de Sutton ha elaborado un formulario de evaluación de las necesidades de los hogares tras las inundaciones para ayudarnos a conocer qué sigue necesitando nuestra comunidad tras las inundaciones de julio de 2026 (Incidente 26-0019). Este formulario abarca la ayuda para la limpieza y la demolición, las necesidades de reconstrucción, los electrodomésticos y el mobiliario, así como otros artículos de primera necesidad, y nos permite coordinarnos con organizaciones de voluntarios y organismos de ayuda humanitaria en relación con posibles donaciones de bienes, servicios o mano de obra. Rellenar este formulario no garantiza la recepción de ayuda, pero nos ayuda a dirigir los recursos hacia donde más se necesitan.

Incident Task Force Support personnel will be in town the next few days working to support our recovery. These are individuals from around the state with experience in recovery.

The Incident Support Task Force, managed by the Texas Division of Emergency Management, was created to assist jurisdictions that have been impacted by an emergency or disaster, to recover more efficiently by starting the recovery process early in the response phase.
