The USDA WIC Breastfeeding Award of Excellence is a national honor given by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to local WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) agencies. It recognizes programs that provide exemplary breastfeeding promotion, peer counseling, and community support to help increase breastfeeding rates. Applicants went through two levels of approval. This year, USDA is recognizing 160 local WIC agencies that demonstrated excellence in breastfeeding promotion and support. This includes 114 Gold awardees, 43 Premiere awardees, and 3 Elite awardees. Tuolumne County WIC was 1 out of 3 agencies nationwide to receive the Elite award recognition. Congratulations to all the recipients!

WIC will be at the Sonora Farmers Market tomorrow, July 18th to distribute the last 10 Farmers' Market benefits. Families caring for a child between the ages of 1-5 that are currently enrolled with WIC can receive an additional $36 for fresh fruits, vegetables, or herbs from any one of the WIC Certified Vendors. Must be present at the farmers' market and have your WIC Card to participate.

WIC Staff will be there from 7:30 am until all benefits are distributed or until 11:30 when the market ends. Benefits will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.

Did you know that you can use your regular Fruits & Vegetables benefit at WIC Certified Farmers Markets? The following farms accept WIC!
-J&J Farms
-DePalma Farms
-Tyson Hill Farm
-Dambacher Family Farm
Just use the QR code on the front of your WIC Card to pay for fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, or fresh cut herbs. Your WIC Card doesn't have a QR code? Not a problem. You can get an updated card by going to our local WIC office or coming to the Sonora Farmers Market Saturday, July 11th.

WIC staff will be at the Sonora Certified Farmers Market tomorrow distributing an additional $36 to the first 35 eligible WIC Families with a child(ren) age 1-5, provided by the federal Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) and California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP). You must have your California WIC Card and be currently certified.

WIC now offers a new choice for your baby's fruit and vegetable
benefits at WIC.

Is your baby six months old and ready for solid foods? You can
swap all or half of your baby’s jarred fruits and vegetables for fresh,
canned, or frozen fruits and vegetables. Choose the options that
work best for your family.

At your next appointment, talk to your WIC counselor about your
baby’s new food options . To learn more, visit MyFamily.WIC.ca.gov.

adding new foods to give your family more options, more flavors and
more flexibility at the store. 🍇🌿🍉🥕
