Macon Echo This page is just out of interest to realize how far out these occasional sonic booms are experienced, and to share how powerful some are.

Also, this page serves to inform some who may not know where and how these window-rattling events occur.

"Macon Echo" is the Air Force's name for testing the F-15 Eagle fighter-bomber jets at Robins AFB. The West-to-East leg of this flight is done at a certain altitude (around 35,000 feet) and it is super-sonic, i.e., from Buena Vista to around Soperton/Vidalia area. The sonic boom is usually heard in a twin-successive boom sounds...."boom-boom". Robins AFB is one of three depot bases that completely repair our Air Force planes, and the F-15 is one of them. Tinker AFB is another in Oklahoma. I don't know where the other is. You're welcome to comment.
