ALL SOUND BEACHERS--JOIN THE SOUND BEACH CIVIC: On November 11, 11 AM, at the Sound Beach Veterans Memorial Park to honor the men and women who have given so much to ensure the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Then we invite you to the last Civic meeting of the year on Nov. 13, 7:30 PM, at the Sound Beach firehouse. There will be a very short business meeting (with an update on the post office closure and a discussion of Civic plans for 2024) followed by a get-together. All are welcome. You don't have to be a member.

ELECTION DAY: NOVEMBER 7, 2023

EARLY VOTING: OCTOBER 28, 2023 – NOVEMBER 5, 2023

There are three ways for Suffolk County voters to cast a ballot in this year’s election:
1. On Election Day at your polling place.
2. During early voting periods at any of the 27 early voting locations throughout Suffolk County
3. By Absentee Ballot. The Board of Elections will remain open until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 18th and Thursday, October 20th for absentee ballot requests and submissions. A statewide absentee ballot tracker allows you to monitor the status of your absentee ballot.

A final reminder of the Sound Beach Civic Meet the Candidate night on October 9. Candidates to the Suffolk County Legislature District 6 and Town of Brookhaven Council District 2 have been invited. Join us and learn what they stand for, following which there will be light refreshments and the opportunity to chat with them.

Let's Talk Government Shutdown: Veteran's Gudie:

As of now it is still unclear whether a shutdown would occur, but if it does - this is how it would affect VA's customers.

• Veteran health care is not impacted. VA Medical Centers, Outpatient Clinics, and Vet Centers will be open.
• VA benefits will continue to be processed and delivered, including compensation, pension, education, and housing benefits.
• Burials will continue at VA national cemeteries. Applications for headstones, markers, and burial benefits processing will continue.
• The Board of Veterans’ Appeals will continue decisions on Veterans' cases.
• VA Contact Centers (1-800-MyVA411) and the Veterans Crisis Line (Dial 988, Press 1) are open 24/7.

• VA will not provide Veteran career counseling or transition assistance program activities.
• The GI Bill Hotline will be closed.
• VA benefits regional offices will be closed.
• VA will cease public affairs and outreach to Veterans.
• VA will not permanently place headstones or maintain the grounds at VA national cemeteries.
• VA will not process applications for pre-need burials.
• VA will not print new presidential memorial certificates.
