Earlier this morning Members of the Sound Beach Fire Department, their family and the public paid respects at our annual Memorial Day service.

We would like to remind everyone of The National Moment of Remembrance, a tradition observed on each Memorial Day, at 3:00 p.m. local time.

During this time, Americans are encouraged
to pause for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in military service.

We all should reflect on the freedoms we
enjoy as Americans and on those who died
for those freedoms. To any families of our
fallen heroes we say “Thank you.” We owe them and their loved ones our heartfelt gratitude and so much
more.

To reclaim Memorial Day as a special holiday
and to honor our fellow Americans, please
participate at 3:00pm today by simply
stopping whatever you are doing and pause
for a moment of silence.

Thank you to those who took the time out of their holiday weekend to be with us. We
appreciate you helping to make Memorial
Day meaningful.

Today, the members of the Sound Beach Fire Department pause to remember and honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. Because of their sacrifice, we are able to live freely and safely in the communities we proudly serve every day.

This Memorial Day, we ask everyone to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor the heroes who gave their all for our country.

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Tomorrow, the Sound Beach Fire Department will be holding its annual Memorial Day services at 10:00 a.m. Due to the weather forecast our ceremony will be held inside our Firehouse.

All of us here at SBFD believe it's important to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of Memorial Day.

While it often marks the beginning of summer, tomorrow is a solemn day of remembrance to honor the brave members of our nation's armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country and our brother and sister firefighters who have gone before us.

Because we as volunteer firefighters and EMTs operate in a profession that understands the price of duty, tomorrow holds a special significance for us and we welcome all to join us in paying respects.

🛟 Multi-Agency Marine Rescue Drill 🚤🌊

On Saturday May 16th the Sound Beach Fire Department hosted a multi-agency marine rescue drill at Cedar Beach.

Members of our department along with Miller Place, Mt. Sinai, Port Jefferson & Setauket fire departments, Suffolk County PD Marine Unit Delta and Suffolk County FRES' Drone Team participated in a search for simulated victims from a reported small plane crash in the sound and a missing person in the harbor.

This valuable training gave us the opportunity to help coordinate a large water rescue incident while our boat crews were able to practice their navigating and search pattern skills with some of our neighboring fire departments.

Please remember to practice safe boating and to always wear a life jacket when out on the water.

Thank you to our own EMT Patty for the great photos. To see more check out Sound Beach Fire Photos.

On Saturday, May 9th, members of the traveled to the to participate in the annual Chuck Varese Vehicle Extrication Tournament, commonly known as the JOLT (Jaws Of Life Tournament).

The tournament honors the memory of firefighter Chuck Varese and brings together departments from across Long Island to train, compete, and share vehicle rescue techniques and knowledge. This year’s event featured more than 30 teams from approximately 17 different departments, all performing challenging rescue scenarios designed to test speed, teamwork, and skill.

Sound Beach was proud to send two teams of five firefighters to compete in the tournament. Both teams performed exceptionally well and advanced to the quarterfinals before being eliminated. In an impressive showing, there was less than one minute separating the final times of the two Sound Beach teams.

We are proud of all of our members who represented the department with professionalism, dedication, and teamwork throughout the day.

Interested in learning skills like vehicle extrication, rescue operations, firefighting, and helping your community? At approximately 2:30 this morning the Sound Beach Fire Department, along with multiple other fire departments, was mutual aided to the Rocky Point Fire Department N.Y. for a commercial structure fire on Main St. Rocky Point. First-arriving units from RPFD found a well-involved fire upon arrival which was made more challenging by the collapse of the roof and a downed power line in front of the building.

Our Engine 9 responded to the scene and secured a backup fire hydrant, while firefighters assisted RPFD with overhaul and mop-up for a little over an hour before being released and returning to service around 4:00 am.

Situations like this highlight the importance of trained, committed volunteers. If you can see yourself making a difference when it matters most, we encourage you to join us.
