Did you know that some birds are able to sleep while flying?
It's true...Migratory birds like the swift can engage in unihemispheric slow-wave sleep. This means they shut down half of their brain to rest while keeping the other half awake and the eye open, allowing them to sleep mid-flight.
Birds are truly amazing!
This images below are of a swift and the other shows a young house sparrow with one eye open while sleeping.
