This year, an estimated 42,170 women will die from breast cancer in the U.S.

Although rare, men get breast cancer too. In 2020, an estimated 2,620 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year in the U.S. and approximately 520 will die.

Fire Safety Week is Oct 4th-10th with this years theme being “Serve up fire safety in the Kitchen”.
South Beloit Firefighters Max and Jay take fire safety and cooking very seriously. Here are some tips to help prevent cooking related fires or injuries:
• Stay in the area while cooking- oven or stovetop, outside grilling or deep frying any foods. If you have to leave the area of the stove or deep fryer, even for a short time turn off the flame/heat or have someone else keep watch.
• Remain home while you are using the stove. Turn on a timer to remind yourself that you are cooking.
• Being tired, drinking alcohol and or taking certain medications while cooking can make you drowsy, and is not safe.
• Always keep an oven mitt and pan lid near by when cooking. If a small grease fire starts, turn or remove the lid until cool.
• Have a “kid-free zone” of at least three feet around the stove, grill or deep fryer and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried.

At approximately 1401 on 09/26/2020 South Beloit Fire Dept was alerted to a fire spreading through the building at Behr Recycling Facility in South Beloit. A large dark black smoke header could be seen. Upon arrival command called for additional aid through the Mutual aid box alarm system (MABAS). Crews from South Beloit Fire, Beloit Fire, Rockton Fire, Harlem Roscoe Fire and Lifeline Ambulance arrived on scene and through a great demonstration of teamwork extinguished the fire without incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
I would also like to take this time to thank our cover companies from Town of Beloit Fire, Northwest Fire and Capron Rescue Squad.
Please forward all questions to the South Beloit Fire Department at 815-389-3097

Most of you know that Chief Michael Davenport will be retiring on Monday, August 31st after 33 years with the South Beloit Fire Department. All of us are sad to see him leave, but wish him an amazing retirement! He has been an amazing chief over the past few years, with everything that has been thrown at him. But it’s time for him to pass on the legacy of leading the South Beloit Fire Department to a new chief. Thank You Macktown Lions for dropping off lunch for the crew today.

This was such an incredible day for the Macktown Lions. We were able to bless our local police officers and firefighters with lunch and a few snacks. It's incredibly challenging to be a first responder currently and for us(as a club) to give back it makes all the difference in the world. Thank you all for entrusting us with the privilege of serving these amazing men and women.

Rockton Fire Protection District

Last night members from Rockton, Harlem Roscoe & South Beloit Fire Departments conducted a joint training session with the topic being Multi Company Fire Attack. The drill was conduct in real time, utilizing our joint tactical objective guidelines ensuring interoperability. The departments respond automatically to any report of a structure within the three fire districts. This training acts as a dress rehearsal and allows for all members to refine their skills and abilities on the fireground.

Tonight some of our members were able to attend a combined training with Rockton Fire and Harlem-Roscoe Fire. Rockton Fire was lucky enough to have a house donated to them for training. Tonight 4 of our probationary firefighters were able to do the skills they need to obtain their Basic Operation Firefighter certification. Which involved searching for a victim and ventilating a roof, both times with live fire and smoke.

We are very lucky to have such a great working relationship with all our neighboring fire departments, and have the opportunity to train with them.

We here at the South Beloit Fire Department realize there are not many professional fireworks happening this year and we acknowledge the fact that many may make the decision to buy your own and set them off in celebration of our countries independence. Although we urge our citizens to not set off illegal fireworks we want to make sure if and when they do, they do it in a safe manner. Nothing will put a damper on your fourth of July celebrations more than a fire or serious injury to you and/or your guests. Please use extra caution this year if you decide to have your own fireworks show.

"A System Dedicated To Saving Lives"

In February 1927, there was a bond issue to remodel City Hall, which included the establishment of a fire department and purchase of fire equipment. The first group of volunteers met in fall of 1927 and with the help of Beloit firemen, they learned how to use the equipment and effectively to fight fires. The first fire truck was a W.S. Knott, manufactured in Minneapolis and delivered in February 1928 by Clare Hillman, who was familiar with its operation and became the first fire chief of the South Beloit Fire Department. The first uniformed department was made up of twelve members, plus Chief Hillman.

Located in one station on Gardner Street/Highway 75, the South Beloit Fire Department is a municipal agency servicing 6.5 square miles and a population of about 8000 citizens of South Beloit, Illinois. The community is a mix of residential, commercial, and light & heavy industrial. The department presently holds a ISO rating of 5.

The number of residents, community size, and alarms are increasing every year. The department responds to about 1100 calls per calendar year with 70% Medical and 30% Fire, Rescue, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Water Rescues, Technical Rescues, Public Assist, and other calls.

The fire department currently has 4 full-time and 20 part-time members. The department operators a Duty Shift with 3 Firefighters on duty at all times.

The department operates: 2 Engines, 1 Ladder Truck, 1 Rescue/Engine, 2 ALS Ambulances, 2 Command Vehicles, 2 Rescue Boats, 1 Water Rescue Truck, 1 Technical Rescue Trailer, and 1 Utility Vehicle.

The South Beloit Fire Department is a full service department providing Fire Protection/Suppression, Emergency Medical Services, HAZ-MAT, Water Rescue and Recover, and Technical Rescue Responses. The department also has an aggressive Fire Prevention / Public Education Division.

The EMT-Basics and EMT-Paramedics operator under the OSF Northern Region EMS System Protocols.

The South Beloit Fire Department has auto-aid agreements with the following fire departments: Rockton Fire Protection District, Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District, and Beloit City Fire Department.

There is a joint Water Rescue Team that has members from both the South Beloit Fire Department and the Beloit City Fire Department.

The department is part of MABAS Division 8 (Winnebago County) and MABAS Division 104 (Rock County, Wis).
