🏓 A Special Thank You To A Community Hero! 💙💛

We’re excited to recognize and thank Jennifer Reives, founder of Pick-A-Ball Diverse Capitol Sports, for her incredible support of our SBCSC Elementary Pickleball After-School Program!

Through Jennifer, Pick-A-Ball, and their community partnerships, all of the equipment needed for our inaugural elementary pickleball season has been donated, helping us bring the sport to students across the district. 🏓🙌🏽

Jennifer’s work is centered around making racket and paddle sports more accessible while using athletics to educate, empower, motivate, and inspire people of all abilities. She has been a strong advocate for growing racket sports throughout our schools and community, with a special focus on getting the next generation playing.

Her passion for creating opportunities for young people and removing barriers to participation aligns perfectly with what we’re working to build through SBCSC Athletics.

We’re incredibly grateful to have Jennifer and Pick-A-Ball investing in our students and helping us create more opportunities to learn, play, grow, and have fun!

⚽ Help Us Build a New Community Futsal Court in South Bend!

South Bend Schools and Indiana Soccer are teaming up to create a new community-use futsal court and expand opportunities for kids and families to play the game right here in our community!

Our goal is to to transform an underused tennis court into a dedicated futsal space. Donations will help provide new goals and a scoreboard, updated fencing and gates, new signage, and an ADA-compliant playing surface and fixtures.

Every donation helps us get one step closer to creating another place for our students and community to play, learn, compete, and fall in love with the game. Attached below are a few concepts of what the court could look like. ⚽💙💛

We’re excited to get another great season of SBCSC Elementary Athletics for underway! Coming up:

🎾 Coed Pickleball (4th-5th)
🏈 Boys Flag Football (4th-5th)
🤼 Boys & Girls Wrestling (2nd-5th)

Practices will begin over the next couple of weeks. Families should contact their school’s Athletic Coordinator for specific practice dates and times.

🏐 Please join us in welcoming Skylar Thomas to the team as our Foundation Phase Lead for Volleyball!

A proud Riley High School graduate, Skylar brings a lifelong passion for athletics and a strong connection to South Bend. She played volleyball all four years at Riley as a libero, while also competing in softball throughout high school. Her experience in travel volleyball and softball helped develop her love for competition, teamwork, leadership, and helping others grow through sports.

As an elementary teacher and athletics coordinator, Skylar is passionate about creating opportunities for students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and discover what they are capable of achieving. She believes athletics can play an important role in developing resilience, discipline, character, and confidence in young people.

“I especially love seeing the excitement on a child’s face when they learn a new skill, overcome a challenge, or accomplish something they once thought they couldn’t do. I’m excited to help create meaningful experiences for our elementary student-athletes, support our coaches, and continue growing volleyball throughout South Bend schools.”

The Athletics Foundation Phase Lead position goes beyond the sidelines by helping shape the future of a specific sport. This role helps develop athletes, strengthen coaches, build program culture, and create a pathway for long-term success as students progress through SBCSC athletics.
