🏆 Congratulations, Steel Warehouse! 🏆

We were thrilled to honor Steel Warehouse as our Outstanding Company of the Year at the Alexis Coquillard Leadership Appreciation Event. It was such a pleasure to celebrate with you and recognize your incredible partnership!

For more than 30 years, Steel Warehouse has been a loyal and dedicated partner of United Way, showing up year after year to support our community and help make a difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Founded in South Bend in 1947, Steel Warehouse has grown from a small local steel operation into a global company while remaining committed to its family-owned roots and the community it calls home.

🌟Staff Spotlight: Meet Jim Baxter, Our New Director of Community Outreach! 🌟

Please join us in congratulating Jim Baxter on his new role as United Way of St. Joseph County’s Director of Community Outreach!

Jim has been part of the United Way family for eight years, serving in several roles along the way. He began with the Health Improvement Alliance, became a Community Impact Coordinator in 2021, and then Director of Community Impact in 2022. Most recently, Jim served as a Community Navigator at our OneRoof Center, working alongside community partners and connecting people in our community with the resources they need.

Jim’s passion for serving others has been a constant throughout his career. Before United Way, he taught Communications at Notre Dame and spent 25 years at Coachman. After retiring, Jim found himself missing that “something” and began working with the unhoused population—where he discovered a passion for helping others and promoting the importance of health.

In his new role, Jim is excited to get out into the community, meet new people, share the United Way story, and build new connections. And, of course, he’s especially excited that it gives him an excuse to drink more coffee! ☕️

Outside of work, Jim and his wife, Bonnie, have been married for 53 years. They have three children and 11 grandchildren, and Jim loves cheering on his grandkids at their track, soccer and softball events. He and Bonnie also love to travel, with Italy holding the top spot on Jim’s list of favorite destinations. 🇮🇹

We are so excited to have Jim stepping into this role. His passion for people, our community and United Way is contagious!

Help us welcome Jim to his new role! ❤️

💙 Shining a Light on an Incredible Community Partner! 💙

For many years, Clay Church and Clay Church Food Pantry have embodied the true spirit of community partnership. Through their leadership and support of People Gotta Eat, Project DASH, and the Emergency Food & Shelter Program, they consistently go above and beyond to serve our neighbors with dignity, compassion, and collaboration.

Whether providing food, transportation, volunteers, or simply asking, “How can we help?” Clay Church Food Pantry continues to make a meaningful impact throughout our community.

Their message, “You Are Loved,” is more than just words—it is reflected in every act of service.

At our recent Coquillard Leadership Appreciation Event, we were proud to recognize Clay Church Food Pantry as our 2025 Community Impact Partner of the Year! 🏆

Congratulations, and thank you for all you do to strengthen our community! 💙
