Yesterday, a Borden Waste-Away truck was involved in an incident that required the driver to dump the contents. While serving a residential route, the driver noticed smoke from the vehicle. Following procedure, the driver unloaded the truck to avoid further escalation.
As seen in the video a battery ended up in with mixed recycling. Borden is seen cleaning up the materials.
Curbside service is for mixed household recycling containing paper, cardboard, plastic packaging labeled 1-5 & 7, glass and metal food packaging.
The Solid Waste Management District of St. Joseph County has two locations for St. Joe County residents to drop off all types of household batteries for safe recycling.
