On Friday, all of our 5th grade students visited the Makerspace for the first time! Students brought wonderful energy, curiosity, and enthusiasm to every part of the experience.
During their visit, students completed the RIASEC inventory, a career interest assessment based on Holland's six career interest types. The inventory helps students think about the kinds of activities they enjoy and the strengths they may want to develop. Our students will learn about thirty-six different careers in their time with us!
Realistic (R): hands-on, practical work
Investigative (I): research and problem-solving
Artistic (A): creative expression
Social (S): helping and working with people
Enterprising (E): leading and persuading
Conventional (C): organizing and detail-oriented work
There are no “right” or “wrong” results. Every student has a unique combination of interests and strengths, and those interests may grow and change over time. The inventory gives children a helpful starting point for learning more about themselves and imagining possibilities for the future.
By learning about their interests now, students can begin discovering potential jobs and career pathways that match their strengths. More importantly, they are learning that the future is full of possibilities—and that curiosity, effort, creativity, and a willingness to try are powerful tools for growth.
