And we’re proud to once again be “The Pride of the South Side”. As of January 2025, we will again be known as Centre Township Fire Department.

Our team of professional firefighters are honored to continue the legacy of dedication and service that drove so many who came before us to protect the lives and property of their neighbors. The history of the fire service in Centre Township is deeply rooted in the values of a community that, in 1948, saw the need for better fire protection and worked together to make it a reality. That spirit of community has remained through the years, as Centre’s fire department modernized and reorganized to meet ever-changing needs. In early 2024, the Centre Township Board announced it would end the 2008 agreement with Portage Township that had merged the two departments into the Southwest Central Fire Territory. It’s a move that puts control of fire, rescue, and emergency medical services back into the hands of the community that has relied on us for more than 75 years. Our team of professional firefighter/EMTs is honored to continue the legacy of dedication and service that drove so many who came before us to protect the lives and property of their neighbors.

☀️ Summer heat can sneak up on you fast — whether you’re working outside, spending the day at the park, or enjoying time with family. Dehydration and heat-related illnesses can happen before you even realize it, so remember to drink water often, take breaks in the shade, and never wait until you feel thirsty to hydrate.

Signs of dehydration can include dizziness, headaches, fatigue, and muscle cramps. Stay safe this summer by planning ahead, checking on loved ones, and keeping plenty of water nearby wherever you go! 🚰

A big thank you to the fine folks from Trinity Church, who dropped by today to show their appreciation with homemade cookies and a cool poster showcasing students’ artwork!

We’re grateful to be a stop on Trinity’s Serve South Bend Saturday, a day when congregation members canvass the community to give back and serve others in need.
