Green Mountain Academy is just under a month away! Today, we're excited to introduce C/Lt Col Talia Batherwich, who is serving as this year’s Deputy Commander for Support (DCS).

A member of Nashua Composite Squadron in New Hampshire Wing, C/Lt Col Batherwich plays a critical role in ensuring all the logistical pieces—from supplies to schedules—come together smoothly. Her strong sense of organization, professionalism, and leadership have been essential throughout the planning process.

C/Lt Col Batherwich brings years of experience to her role. She has served as Cadet Commander, Deputy Commander for Operations, and Cadet Public Affairs Officer in her squadron. She’s also taken an active leadership role on the Cadet Advisory Council, currently serving as NH Wing CAC Chair and the NER CAC Primary Representative for 2024–2025.

Talia’s encampment background is extensive. She staffed both the New Hampshire and Vermont Wing Encampments as Squadron Commander in 2024, served as Cadet Operations Officer for Winter NCOLS 2024, and was a Flight Commander at the 2023 Vermont Encampment. She is a graduate of both NCOLS (2023) and Mid-Atlantic Region CLS (2024), where she served as a team leader. In 2024, she also judged the NER Cadet Competition, evaluating uniforms and scoring the quiz bowl event.

Outside of CAP, Talia is just as engaged. She’s a student at Londonderry High School with a 3.6 GPA, where she’s a member of the Girls Soccer Team, School Band, and serves as Captain of the Drumline. She is also President of the Community Service Club, a peer mentor for incoming freshmen, and a member of Tri-M, the Music Honor Society.

Known for her drive, adaptability, and commitment to service, C/Lt Col Batherwich is a key part of the team making Vermont Wing's 2025 Green Mountain Academy possible.

Stay tuned as we continue highlighting the cadets working behind the scenes to make this year’s encampment a success!

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be introducing you to the Cadet Staff who have been working hard for months to bring this year’s encampment to life.

First up is our Cadet Commander, C/Maj Jorja Sutton from Capital Composite Squadron.

C/Maj Sutton has been a member of Civil Air Patrol for nearly five years and brings a deep passion for leadership development to her role. Since being selected, she’s been leading the cadet planning effort—working closely with her command staff to shape a meaningful and challenging experience for every cadet attending Green Mountain Academy.

Her CAP journey includes graduating from NCOLS with New Hampshire Wing in 2021 and RCLS with the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2024. She has served in every position on the Vermont Wing Cadet Advisory Council, represented the Wing at the Northeast Region CAC, and commanded cadet teams at both the Adirondack Balloon Festival (2024) and the Winter Bivouac (2025). She served as a Flight Sergeant at the New Hampshire Wing 2022 Summer Encampment, a Squadron Commander at the Vermont Wing 2023 Summer Encampment, and Deputy Commander of Operations at the Vermont Wing 2024 Green Mountain Academy. She is the current Cadet Squadron Commander of Capital Composite Squadron, Vermont's largest Cadet Squadron.

Outside of leadership, she’s also passionate about unpowered flight—currently pursuing her Balloon Pilot License and having pre-soloed in gliders at the NER Glider Academy last summer.

Academically, she’s dual-enrolled at Norwich University, entering her senior year of high school while pursuing a dual major in Computer Science/Mathematics and Spanish, with minors in Psychology, Accounting, and Leadership. Her post-college goals include applying to MIT and eventually joining the Peace Corps.

When she’s not flying, studying, or leading, she enjoys reading and riding her motorcycle.

We’re proud to have C/Maj Sutton leading this year’s Cadet Staff and look forward to the incredible experience she and her team are creating. Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight the cadets making Green Mountain Academy possible! 💪🇺🇸

C/Lt Col Nate Conyers and C/Maj Jorja Sutton of the Capital Composite Squadron returned to the Hill as Cadet Leaders for an impressive group of cadets representing the wing at National Legislative Day. C/1st Lt David Burch from Rutland Composite Squadron, C/2d Lt Randy Sherman from Green Mountain Composite Squadron, C/CMSgt Jacob Niekrewicz from Green Mountain Composite Squadron, and C/SMSgt Kathryn Conyers from Capital Composite Squadron represented the wing, aided by C/Capt Jayden LaVecchia from Capital Composite Squadron, who attended the CAP Civic Leadership Academy, in meetings with Vermont's Congressional leaders. Accompanied by Col Brian Benedict, Wing Commander, Maj Joseph Bosley, Deputy Wing Commander, and Maj Kelli Sutton-Bosley, Director of Cadet Programs, the cadets spent the day in congressional offices, touring the Capitol, and visiting the Senate and House Galleries. These exceptional young leaders left a lasting positive impression on congressional leaders.
