Last night at 11:07 p.m., South Burlington firefighters responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Kirby Road and Airport Parkway.

While units were en route, dispatch advised that the operator was unable to get out of the vehicle. Ladder 1 upgraded the response, requesting Engine 2 to assist with the extrication.

Upon arrival, crews quickly stabilized the vehicle and safely extricated the operator in approximately two and a half minutes. The patient was then transferred to Ambulance 1 for evaluation and care.

This incident highlights the value of a fire-based EMS system, where firefighters, AEMTs, and paramedics work seamlessly together. Having suppression and transport resources respond simultaneously allows patients to be accessed, extricated, and receive advanced medical care without delay.

On Wednesday morning, South Burlington firefighters responded with Engine 2 and Ambulance 2 to assist Shelburne Fire Department at a working structure fire in Shelburne.

Despite challenging water supply conditions, crews made an effective fire attack that successfully confined the fire to the attached garage, preventing extension and damage within the residence.

Excellent work by all agencies involved and another strong example of the value of mutual aid.

At our recent South Burlington Fire Department Recognition Night, we had the opportunity to recognize three more members who achieved a significant professional milestone by earning their Fire Officer (FO) credential through the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE).

This makes for a total of 8 of our members who have achieved this professional designation!

The CPSE Fire Officer Credentialing Program recognizes fire service professionals who demonstrate excellence in leadership, education, experience, professional development, and lifelong learning. Earning the FO credential requires candidates to document their qualifications, demonstrate continued professional growth, and commit to maintaining the credential through ongoing education and service to the profession.

This accomplishment reflects each officer's dedication to professional excellence and their commitment to providing the highest level of leadership and service to the South Burlington community.

Please join us in congratulating Battalion Chief Christman, Lieutenant White, and Lieutenant Wermer on this well-earned achievement.
