Good afternoon,
Following a recent roundtable discussion regarding volunteer firefighter recruitment and retention, we are reaching out to share how Carver Career and Technical Center can support our station’s mission.
They understand the challenges local stations face, specifically regarding the high cost of training and the difficulty of retaining recruits through certification. To assist all Kanawha County stations, Carver CTC offers Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 (FF1 & FF2) certification courses at no cost to our department.
Their program is led by Linc (Richard) Symns, a retired firefighter with extensive field experience. By enrolling high school-aged recruits in their school-day program, our station benefits from:
· Zero Training Costs: Save our station's budget by having recruits certified through their state-funded program.
· Rapid Certification: Students can complete both FF1 and FF2 within a single academic year.
· Streamlined Onboarding: They provide a structured environment that ensures recruits meet all training guidelines and requirements.
If you have any high school students currently volunteering or interested in a firefighting career, please encourage them to apply through the Carver CTC Online Application. https://bit.ly/49X7X3x
They are committed to helping us "get the word out" and strengthening the volunteer network in Kanawha County. If there are other ways they can partner to improve our recruitment efforts, please do not hesitate to reach out.
