Earlier this week, department staff participated in an auto extrication training exercise presented by Firematic. Members were able to get hands on experience with our new HURST Jaws of Life battery powered rescue tools which are now carried on Engine 2.

Shortly before 2:00PM this afternoon, Engine 1 and Tower 1 responded mutual aid to the town of Whately to assist Whately Fire Department with a barn fire on River Road.

A small barn fire in Whately was caused by improper disposal of smokeable materials. Quick response prevented serious damage.

Earlier today, department staff with the assistance of Deerfield Department of Public Works hung flags throughout the down town area for the upcoming Memorial Day Holiday. Special thank you to Town of Montague, MA DPW for lending their bucket truck.

Over the weekend, department members participated in a search and rescue training exercise. Multiple evolutions were conducted in smoke filled conditions to simulate near zero-visibility environments.

Earlier this morning, department members and Tower 1 were in the town of Whately to display the flag at the start of the annual WMass Mother's Day Half Marathon. Happy Mothers Day!

Just before 3:30PM this afternoon Engine 3, Brush 1, and UTV responded mutual aid to the Deerfield Fire District for multiple brush fires along the rail tracks in the area of Upper Road.

Shortly after 9:00 AM this morning, the Massachusetts State Police Truck Team conducted a random inspection of a tanker truck at the weigh station on Route-91 northbound. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the tanker was leaking a liquid substance. Engine 2 and Rescue 1 responded to the scene and upon arrival, a Tier 1 Hazardous & Risk Assessment response from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services District 4 Hazardous Materials Response Team was initiated. A safe perimeter was established. During further inspection, it was determined that the internal valve in the tank was leaking. Crews stood by until the liquid could be transferred to a different tanker truck. Units cleared the scene after 2:00PM.

Shortly after 4:30PM this afternoon, Engine 1 responded mutual aid to the City of Greenfield to assist the Greenfield - MA Fire Department with a brush fire in the area of Canada Hill Road.

Just before 10:30PM yesterday evening we responded along with Deerfield Police Department, Massachusetts and South County EMS to South Main Street in the area of the South Deerfield Polish American Citizens’ Club for a one car motor vehicle accident, vehicle into a utility pole. There were no injuries.
