Happy Winter Solstice!

The winter solstice, also known as the shortest day of the year, happens when the Earth's North Pole is tilted farthest from the Sun. This is why this day has the shortest period of sunlight. It is also the start of winter.

To celebrate, we have winter themed picture books and some collections of short stories to enjoy on this short day.

It's Jane Austen's birthday today. I might or might not have celebrated with a cup of tea.

Austen is a much lauded author known for her detailed interpretation and critique of ordinary people in everyday life. She often looks at women's dependence on marriage in the 18th century. But during her life, though praised by critiques, she was not truly recognized as her novels were published anonymously, and they brought her little fame. But today, we celebrate her wit, humor, social commentary, and realism.

Hanukkah Sameach!

Hanukkah begins this evening for many of our friends and family. The Reading Passport Little Free Library has a few Hanukkah picture books for families to enjoy. And we wish those celebrating peace and light this holiday season.

Doctor Who Day was on November 23rd and the 1st of 3 60th Anniversary specials is out today on Disney+. So why not get into some Timey-Wimey fun with these color books.

November marks Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month.

We have some books by indigenous authors in the library to celebrate.

I also would like to recommend checking out Poet Laureate Joy Harjo signature project, Living Nations, Living Words. I read the collection 2 years ago. You can read it all online through the Library of Congress. Find poetry written and read by indigenous poets at www.loc.gov and search Living Nations, Living Words.
