🚴‍♂️ A SPECIAL STOP ON THE ROAD TO REMEMBER 🚴‍♀️

Today, South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District was honored to welcome the riders of the Bay to Brooklyn 9/11 Memorial Ride at Station 22.

The connection actually started earlier in the day when Tommy, a retired FDNY Lieutenant, happened to ride by while our crew was out training on tender operations. Tommy stopped to introduce himself, and before long, we were hearing all about the incredible journey he and the group are making — riding from the San Francisco Bay Area all the way to the Brooklyn Bridge in New York in remembrance of September 11th.

We gave Tommy a tour of the firehouse, and later, the rest of the riders arrived and made Station 22 one of their stops along the way. We were happy to provide a place to rest, cool off, use the bathrooms, refill water bottles, grab some ice, and, most importantly, share some stories and camaraderie. 🚒🚴‍♂️

The group includes current and retired firefighters, a law enforcement officer, and their incredible support crew, traveling with a trailer and truck carrying supplies and helping with any mechanical issues along the journey.

We were also honored to receive a special challenge coin commemorating the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 and had the opportunity to sign a beautiful wooden American flag, handcrafted by one of the firefighters making the ride.

There is something incredibly special about firefighters and first responders connecting across the miles — and across generations — united by the promise to Remember. Honor. Never Forget.

Thank you, Tommy, and everyone with the Bay to Brooklyn 9/11 Memorial Ride, for stopping at Station 22 and allowing us to be a small part of your incredible journey.

Safe travels, ride strong, and Godspeed. We’ll be cheering you on all the way to Brooklyn! 🚴‍♂️🚒

🎓🚑 Congratulations, FF/(almost)PM Patrick Roy!

On July 21, 2026, after nearly a year of demanding work and a challenging schedule, South Elgin Fire District’s FF/EMT-B Patrick Roy graduated from Advocate Sherman Hospital’s Paramedic Program, jointly run through Advocate Sherman Hospital EMS Education and Elgin Community College.

Patrick successfully completed the intensive 11-month program that includes 500 hours of classroom instruction, 500 hours of clinical rotations, and extensive hands-on field experience. Throughout his journey, Patrick was supported by his EMS preceptors, FF/PM Ryan Rompel, FF/PM Jimmy Schoff, and FF/PM Anthony Rodgers, and strengthened by the guidance of our EMS Coordinator, BC Jason Peters.

Next up: Patrick will challenge the National Registry exam as he takes the final step toward becoming a licensed paramedic in the State of Illinois.

Congratulations, Patrick! 👏 Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to providing the best possible care to our community are something to be proud of. South Elgin Fire District is proud of this significant achievement in your fire service career!

WELCOME TWO NEW FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTERS!!!🚒🚑🚒

On June 9, 2026, at the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District monthly board meeting, President Cornelissen administered the Oath of Office to the District’s newest full-time Firefighter/EMT-Bs, Zachary Beatty and Diego Sanchez. Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow firefighters, Zack and Diego officially joined the District’s full-time ranks.

Both firefighters have built their careers within the District from the ground up, starting their employment after successfully completing the Elgin Community College Fire Academy. After attending the academy in 2025, Zack joined the District in August 2025 as a part-time Firefighter/EMT-B. Diego attended the academy in 2024 and joined the District as a part-time Firefighter/EMT-B in September of that same year. Both Zack and Diego are continuing their professional development and are currently enrolled in the Elgin Fire Department Paramedic Program.

The District is proud to welcome Zack and Diego to the full-time team and look forward to watching them grow as firefighters and paramedics while serving the residents of the South Elgin & Countryside Fire Protection District. Their journey is a great example of the opportunities available through the District’s commitment to recruitment, training, and professional development.
