🔥 Fire Safety for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Residents 🚒

Smoke alarms save lives—but standard alarms may not be enough for everyone. Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals should consider specialized smoke alarms and alerting devices designed to provide visual or physical alerts, such as strobe lights, bed shakers, or other notification systems.

Make sure smoke alarms are installed throughout the home, test them regularly, and have a fire escape plan that everyone in the household can hear, see, and understand.

Everyone deserves the chance to be alerted and get out safely. ❤️

🚨 **FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER TESTING — DON’T MISS A STEP!** 🚒

Interested in joining the **South Elgin Fire District**? With **5 immediate openings**, make sure you have everything completed!

📅 **APPLICATION & TESTING DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 18, 2026 at 4PM**

✅ **APPLICATION & REQUIRED DOCUMENTS**
Complete and submit your application and all required supporting documents by **September 18th** at 4PM.

Applications and required documents may also be **dropped off in person** at:

🚒 **South Elgin Fire District Headquarters**

South Elgin, IL

✅ **NATIONAL TESTING NETWORK**
Complete the required written testing through the **National Testing Network (NTN)** by **September 18th**.

✅ **MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS**
Candidates must have:
• Basic Operations Firefighter (BOF) certification
• Illinois EMT-Basic license or higher

✅ **CPAT + LADDER CLIMB**
A valid **Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) with Ladder Climb Certification** must be submitted by:

📅 **OCTOBER 12, 2026**

🚑 **NOT A PARAMEDIC YET? YOU CAN STILL APPLY!**

We are accepting both **Firefighter/Paramedics AND Firefighter/EMT-Basics**.

All new hires must become licensed paramedics within **3 years of their date of hire** — and **South Elgin will send you to paramedic school and pay for the training!**

⭐ Current licensed paramedics who successfully complete the written and oral portions of the process are eligible for **preference points**.
