The South Gate Police Department is launching our routine. The routine is a nightly reminder to residents to remove valuables from their vehicles, lock their vehicle doors, lock the doors to their residences, turn on exterior lights and activate all alarms and security systems.
Every night we will send out a nightly reminder at 9pm to lock up. We ask residents to set a nightly reminder on their smartphones or other devices that will remind them to follow the routine.
Criminals look for easy targets. You can make it more difficult for them by following the ! Many vehicle burglaries, and to a lesser degree, stolen vehicles, occur because of vehicles being left unlocked. Criminals walk through neighborhoods, trying vehicle door handles, hoping to find an unlocked vehicle. The best way to prevent vehicle burglaries is to remove all your valuables, lock your vehicle’s doors upon exiting and take the keys to the vehicle inside your residence.
Tire & Wheel Theft-
🔵Buy and install anti-theft lug nuts. Anti-theft lug nuts require a special tool and can make it difficult to steal the wheels of a vehicle.
🔵Park in a secure garage or a well-lit area where the vehicle can be visible.
🔵When parking a car, turn the wheels to a 45-degree angle. This will make it difficult for a thief to get the lug nuts off, because the inner fender will likely be in the way.
🔵Get close to the curb when parallel parking on the street. The closer the vehicle is, the more difficult it will be for a thief to put a jack underneath the parked car. While the street side of your car will still be exposed, at least the tires on the curb side of the car will be better protected.
