South Hadley Fire Dist 2 SHFD2 is a small combination department. Consisting of 6 Full time members and 30 On call members.

Engine 2 responded to this fire with a crew of full time / call force Firefighters. All FF’s we’re in service by 15:00 hours

Today at 14:29hrs Fire District 1 struck a box alarm for 502A Granby Rd for the report of smoke in the building. First arriving units were met with a smoke condition within the building, no active fire. A burst pipe within the unit assisted in the extinguishment of fire. Smoke and heat damage was noted throughout building. Two cats were rescued by FF Downs and FF Fournier. An additional cat was located later on. All three cats were reunited with their family and appear to be in good health.

The fire is currently under investigation by SHFD1 and MSP Troopers assigned to the Fire Marshals Office.

All apparatus were clear as of 15:58hrs.

During the month of June, members of SHFD2 will be partaking in live burn trainings. Tonight was night 1. Each member must commit to multiple live burns to maintain certification as an interior firefighter.

These trainings also allow us to conduct live fire operations, search and rescue and other real world scenarios in a controlled environment.
