The following summaries highlight recent arrests and summons arrests conducted by our officers. These arrests also include a very brief summary and do not amount to every detail contained within the arrest report. Please note that the following are just a selection of recent events and do not represent the full scope of the work officers do every day.
All persons charged with crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Some incidents will have limited information such as those involving juveniles, domestic violence-related incidents/arrests, and individuals placed into protective custody, per Massachusetts General Laws.
I didn’t mean to steal…. but it was laundry day.
On May 18, 2026, Officers Farber and Roberts were dispatched to the Dollar General on Newton Street for the report of a possible robbery. On scene officers gained the description of
the involved male party and began searching the area. While officers were in the area of Newton Street, an alert business owner saw the male party and informed police, who later located him by Allery’s Liquors. While taking the party into custody, officers were able to locate the items that he deposited in some bushes to avoid detection. These items included the Hanes t shirts and laundry pods he took from Dollar General. He is charged with the following:

On May 20, 2026, Officer Chonmany was on patrol of Granby Road in the area of Easthampton Savings Bank, when he saw a shirtless male party that he believed had a warrant. After Ofc. Chonmany confirmed that the male South Hadley male was indeed the party he believed him to be, he requested extra officers, and eventually stopped him on Granby Rd. where he was placed in custody for the warrant that was issued for a previous incident that occurred in So.
Hadley.
While being searched prior to transport the male was found to be in possession of 5 loose pills. It was learned that the pills actually belonged to his elderly father, and that he believed that he should be taking them, and not his father. This incident was referred to Elder Protective Services, and the party is charged with the following:
Warrant: Disorderly Conduct, Disturbing the Peace x 2
Possession of a Class E Substance
Sometimes things take a while to happen
On September 19, 2022, officers responded to the Cumberland Farms on Newton Street for the report of stolen vehicle. Officer Boyle spoke with the victim, who informed her that he left his
Mercedes running in the parking lot while he went into the store to buy scratch tickets, and we he came out the car was gone. In addition to the vehicle being taken, the victim explained that
there was also $600.00 in cash, his only pair of dentures, and other personal items in the car. Based on video from Cumberland Farms, Ofc Boyle was able to get a good description of the thief, who was wearing clothing consistent with what a construction worker may wear.
A few days later the vehicle was found in town, with items inside that were consistent with what was seen in the video. Those items were sent to the Mass State Crime Lab for DNA analysis and based on those test results charges are finally being brought against an Agawam resident with a lengthy criminal history. He is now being charged with:
Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Larceny over $1200.00
New Bonnie, same old Clyde.
On June 1, 2026, officers responded to the Rocky’s Ace Hardware for the report of a shoplifting that had just occurred. A description of the involved female party was given as well as a description of the items stolen. While enroute to Rockys, Officer Whelihan
observed several people at the bus stop on Newton Street, one of which was a female party with a bag. Once he was able to see the store video, Ofc Whelihan believed that the female at the bus stop
was the same female involved in the shoplifting that totaled $200.00. Officer Chonmany assisted with the case and contacted the PVTA to request camera footage from the bus the female got on. While viewing the bus footage, officers immediately recognized a male party the female was with on the bus, as a South Hadley resident who has had many interactions with this department, and who has a long history of breaking and entering and larcenies. The female party though is not the male’s longtime girlfriend and partner in crime.
The two get off in Holyoke, at which time the male takes possession of the bag containing the stolen items. Using law enforcement software, officers were able to identify the female. At this time warrants are being requested for both parties for the following charges:

On June 3, 2026, officers responded to a residence “open air” 911 call. The dispatcher advised that there sounded like there was a disagreement between parties on the line. Officers were able to locate the involved parties after conducting a check of multiple apartments. The involved were boyfriend and girlfriend and they stated that they were just having an argument, and at the request of the female party, the boyfriend left the residence for the rest of the night.
At 6:12am, officers responded back to the residence for the report of the same male party breaking things in the residence, and that he assaulted his girlfriend. When officers arrived on scene it was learned that the male was let back into the apartment around 4am, after which he punched his girlfriend in the face. The male was taken into custody, at which time it was learned he was on an ankle monitor due to being on federal probation. He was charged with:
Domestic Assault and Battery on an Intimate Partner.

On June 7, 2026, Officer Podmore was conducting traffic enforcement in the Falls area of town. It was during this assignment that he conducted a Registry query of a vehicle
operating on Main Street. This query showed the vehicles registration to be revoked, and that the vehicle was not insured. Ofc Podmore located and stopped the vehicle on Bridge Street,
and was assisted on the stop by Officer Kapinos. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, officers noticed items associated with drug use in the car, as well as a knife on the driver’s lap.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of items used for drug distribution, as well as drug paraphernalia, and a white powdery substance consistent with co***ne. The male driver from
Florence was advised he would be summoned to court, and it was at this time he called “Pop” for a ride. Charges being brought are as follows:
Possession of a Class B Substance (Co***ne)
Unregistered Motor Vehicle
Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked Registration
Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle.
Severe Crash on Amherst Road leads to arrest for Drunk Driving
On June 8, 2026, officers responded to Amherst Road just past Mount Holyoke College for a head on crash. When officers arrived on scene, they observed a Toyota sedan facing north in the southbound lane, and a Dodge truck that was off of the road. Officers on seen noted that the damage to the Toyota was so severe that the two front tires had been torn away from the
vehicle.
After speaking with the occupants of the Dodge truck, officers learned that they were travelling southbound on Amherst Rd, when the Toyota crossed into their lane of travel and collided with
their truck. When officers made contact with the driver of the Toyota, they observed many signs consistent with a person who was under the influence of alcohol. After conducting the investigation, officers placed the driver of the Toyota, who is a female Granby resident under arrest for:
