The South Hempstead Fire Department is honored to co host the 2026 New York State Fire Department Parade on Sunday, August 16th.

Hosting the New York State Parade is a tremendous honor for our department and our community. Hundreds of firefighters, their families, and visitors from across New York State will be joining us to celebrate the traditions, dedication, and brotherhood of the fire service. This event will showcase South Hempstead and bring our community together in a way that few events can.

To ensure the safety of all participants and spectators, roads along the parade route must be cleared of parked vehicles from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on August 16th. Please review the attached parade route and staging information if you live in or plan to travel through the area.

The parade will begin at 1pm on Stratford Road & Webber Avenue, travel north on Webber Avenue, continue west on Woodland Drive, then east on Weir Street, finishing at Firemen’s Field.

We understand that temporary road closures may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and cooperation. Your support is helping us host an event that will leave a lasting impression on visitors from across the state and highlight the pride, hospitality, and spirit of our community.

We encourage everyone to come out, cheer on the marching departments, and be part of this historic day for South Hempstead. Thank you for your continued support—we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

On Wednesday, June 24th, Chief 7400 and Engine 741 responded on mutual aid to a working house fire in Hempstead. Upon arrival, the crew stretched a third handline from Engine 1 into the attic, where they encountered heavy fire conditions and worked aggressively to bring the fire under control. Engine 741 arrived on scene within five minutes of notification. Photos:

As April comes to a close, it was a busy and productive month of training for SHFD. This past Sunday, members had the opportunity to train at the Oceanside training facility, participating in three hands-on evolutions simulating real-world scenarios.

On Sunday, April 26th, 2026, the South Hempstead Fire Department operated on the scene of a confirmed car fire on the ramp from the eastbound Southern State Parkway to northbound Peninsula Boulevard. Firefighters put one hand line into operation off of Engine 742 and had the fire quickly extinguished. All occupants made it out of the vehicle safely and there were no reported injuries.
