Governor Abigail Spanberger signed an executive directive establishing the Virginia Wood Council. 🪵

This new advisory board under the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services will grow the state’s forestry industry through collaboration with government agencies, industry leaders, landowners and academics.

Virginia’s forestry industry supports more than 108,000 jobs and contributes $21 billion annually to the state’s economy.

Virginia has received $189.5 million in year-one funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program, a five-year federal initiative focused on improving healthcare access and outcomes in rural communities.

Led by Region 3 native Heidi Hertz, the initiative will strengthen healthcare workforce pipelines, expand telehealth and mobile care, advance technology solutions, and support healthier communities across the Commonwealth.

Strategic investments like these help build a stronger workforce, healthier communities, and greater opportunity for rural Virginia.

Cybersecurity and IT training are getting a major boost in Region 3. 🧑‍💻

Danville Community College celebrated a new partnership with Rural Empowerment Inc., LLC last month during an on-campus ceremony.

The partnership is a collaborative effort to provide comprehensive training in information technology and cybersecurity, equipping students with the skills needed for today’s workforce.

Collaboration continues to strengthen Region 3!

Last month Governor Spanberger announced $4.2 million in statewide GO Virginia grant funding to support the collaborative AM2 initiative between Regions 2 and 3.

AM2 focuses on scaling advanced manufacturing through talent development, business support and innovative infrastructure. By aligning education, industry and regional partnership strategy, the initiative will strengthen Virginia’s manufacturing ecosystem.
