Southside Rescue Squad, Inc.

Southside Rescue Squad, Inc. We are proud to provide emergency assistance and education to the citizens in the eastern part of Mec Our equipment has changed drastically as well.

Several individuals saw the need to create a rescue agency to service the citizens of our community. On June 1, 1960 the organization began providing basic first aid and transportation. Southside Rescue Squad is committed to providing a safe community, protecting the life and welfare for all people residing or visiting. We accomplish this by delivering quality emergency services to our community.

In meeting this objective, we demand of ourselves the highest professional standards and dedication to our Core Values. Throughout the years volunteer members have continued to serve by getting involved in the community. Members began to take courses giving them instructor credentials. Members were now taking more courses leading to more certified members able to perform more specialized tasks while on scene. They have taught classes at local churches, schools, and other organizations preparing the public on how provide care in the case of an emergency. In 1985 the rescue squad decided to expand the building in response to tremendous growth, success and demand. They wanted to add new bays, bunkrooms and enhance the building to provide a larger space for bingo, training and special functions. As the times changed throughout the years so has Southside Rescue Squad. It is now a dynamic and progressive volunteer EMS agency in the Southern Virginia and is continuing the legacy of those volunteers who initially embraced the idea of serving the community. We now have state of the art health care technology that allows us to deliver the most up to date advances prehospital emergency care possible. Most of our members are now trained to perform Basic Life Support as well as Advanced Life Support and can now give multiple medicines and perform emergency medical procedures in the field. Although many things have changed, one thing has not; the commitment to serving our community. Our volunteers still serve with the same passion and dedication as in the past.

TOWN OF SOUTH HILL
PUBLIC NOTICE – DROUGHT WATCH
August 26, 2026

The Town of South Hill, in coordination with the Roanoke River Service Authority (RRSA), is issuing a Drought Watch due to current drought conditions, declining water levels, and weather conditions affecting our regional water supply.

At this time, there are no mandatory water-use restrictions in place for Town of South Hill customers. However, a drought watch is intended to make residents and businesses aware of the current conditions and encourage voluntary conservation now to help protect our water supply should dry conditions continue.

We ask all water customers to be mindful of their water use and voluntarily reduce unnecessary consumption whenever possible.

Ways You Can Help Conserve Water
• Limit unnecessary outdoor watering of lawns, plants, shrubs and gardens.
• Water only when necessary and avoid watering during the hottest part of the day.
• Avoid washing vehicles, driveways, sidewalks and other outdoor surfaces unless necessary.
• Check faucets, toilets and irrigation systems for leaks and make repairs promptly.
• Take shorter showers and avoid letting water run unnecessarily while brushing teeth, shaving or performing other household activities.
• Run dishwashers and washing machines only when you have a full load.
• Consider postponing other non-essential uses of water when possible.

The purpose of this notice is to help everyone understand the current conditions and begin conserving water before more restrictive measures become necessary.

The Town and RRSA will continue to monitor water levels and drought conditions closely. If conditions worsen, the Town may move into a Drought Warning, at which time additional voluntary conservation measures would be strongly encouraged.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation and assistance in protecting South Hill's water supply. Conserving water now helps us prepare for the possibility of continued dry conditions and reduces the likelihood that more significant restrictions will be necessary later.

Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.
