Join us next Saturday, October 3 11-1pm at South Holland Fire Station 43 for Lunch with Firefighters. Residents of all ages are invited to join the South Holland Fire Department for lunch and tours of the fire station! Enjoy hot dogs, chips, and ice cream, then view the ambulance and fire vehicles and learning about the life-saving equipment used every day by the SHFD.

This event is taking the place of Coffee with Firefighters for the month of October only.

We are pleased to share that QuikTrip (QT) has acquired the former Walt’s Food Centers property at 16145 State Street, with plans to open a new location by the end of summer 2027.

We know many residents have hoped to see another grocery store at this location, and we shared that hope. The Village encouraged the property owner to pursue grocery options, and several possibilities were explored. Ultimately, as privately owned property, the decision regarding its sale rested with the property owner, who reached an agreement with QuikTrip.

While we remain committed to attracting another grocery store to our village, we’re looking forward to the new amenities this development will bring to the community.

The new QuikTrip will feature:
- Quality fuel
- Fresh food and a large convenience store
- The Bubble Bath, QT’s full-tunnel, eco-friendly car wash
- Free vacuums and mat cleaners
- Attractive landscaping and site improvements

The location will also provide a new fueling option on the north side of Route 6, allowing westbound drivers to avoid crossing multiple lanes of traffic after leaving a gas station.

Construction is now underway, with an anticipated opening at the end of summer 2027.

We’re excited to continue welcoming new investment to our village while working toward bringing even more shopping, dining and grocery options to our community.

Due to continued severe lightning, we have made the difficult decision to cancel today’s in-person South Holland Fun Run 5K. The safety of our runners, volunteers, and staff is our top priority.

The good news is that the race will still go on, just in a different way! This year’s Fun Run 5K will now become a virtual race. Participants can complete their 5K on their own at a time and location that works for them.

We will follow up with additional information about the virtual race, including how to participate and submit your results.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding. We are disappointed that we can’t gather together in person, but we hope you’ll still lace up your shoes and complete the 5K with us virtually!

This week, we celebrated a big step forward in flood protection for our village.

We have completed the Thorn Ditch Flood Mitigation Project — a $5.8 million project years in the making to help reduce flooding in our community.

So, what does this mean?

Two new stormwater basins at Maicach Park and Pioneer Park can now collect and temporarily hold more than 3.8 million gallons of rainwater during heavy storms. This gives stormwater somewhere to go instead of overwhelming streets and surrounding areas.

The project also included the replacement of culverts and the planting of 50 new trees, which will help absorb rainwater naturally.

We're proud to celebrate this milestone and the continued work to make our village a safer, stronger and more resilient community❤️

Join us this Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park for our annual Fun Run 5K! The opening ceremony begins at 7am, registration closes at 7:15am, and the race kicks off at 7:30am sharp.

There will be some road/lane closures this Saturday morning due to the Fun Run 5K.

From 7-10am, the following roads will be closed:
-South Park Ave from 162nd St north to 158th St
-166th St from South Park Ave east to Dobson Ave

Please plan your travel accordingly and drive carefully in these areas.

We encourage residents to cheer on the race participants along the race course or at Veterans Park as they cross the finish line!

Stop by tomorrow, September 13, for an afternoon of shopping and family fun.

From 12–3pm, the kids can enjoy a bounce house and face painting while you grab something to eat from the food truck or enjoy grilled favorites from Johnny B’s BBQ. And don’t forget to browse the Shops and check out what our local vendors have to offer!

Street paving is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, in the area surrounding Veterans Memorial Park.

The following streets will be impacted:

• E. 160th Place between South Park Avenue and School Street
• Parkside Drive from E. 160th Place to Riverview Drive
• School Street from Riverview Drive to E. 160th Place
• Veterans Park Drive

Drivers should expect temporary closures, delays and limited access while paving is underway. Please use caution around crews and equipment and consider an alternate route when possible.
