What a great group of MG's at the Reno County Farmers' Market on Saturday morning!!
This month's 3rd Saturday booth was all about Food Preservation- Making the most of your garden produce. Many thanks to these Reno County Extension Master Gardeners who were available to answer questions.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR: The RCEMG booth will be at the market two more times this season on Sept. 19 and Oct. 17.
You can also catch us at our Annual Music in the Garden event, Thursday, Sept 17 at 6pm at our Demo Garden on the HutchCC Campus.

Visit us this Saturday at the Reno County Farmers' Market. Learn about preserving all the wonderful garden produce. We'll have a variety of canning and other food preservation equipment on hand for you to look at. If your garden tools are needing a little love, bring them early and Allen will get them cleaned and sharpened while you shop (be sure to wish him a belated Happy 95th birthday!)

Are your peonies getting a little crowded and not blooming as well as you'd like? Now is the time to divide them.

Early fall is the best time to divide peonies, said K-State horticulture expert Matt McKernan. Doing so can help increase bloom production for many years to come.

Our August RCEMG meeting was great!
Not only did we find this beautiful watermelon waiting for us to devour, but we had a very informative guest speaker from DYCK ARBORETUM OF THE PLAINS- Brad Guhr. Brad shared many slides of their years of Prairie Restoration work. His talk was titled : Landscape like a Kansan!

Many thanks to Terry Pitts from Teardrop Farm Daylily Patch (where we recently toured) for donating the watermelon he has developed over the last 10 years!

And to Brad for his dedicated work at Dyck Arboretum as the Prairie Restoration and Education Coordinator. Congratulations on his recent state award from The Kansas Association for Conservation and Environmental Education. We were so fortunate to learn more about his 20+ years of work at Dyck.

When it comes to growing healthy plants in containers, the potting material you choose can make a bigger difference than you might think!

K-State Extension specialist Cheryl Boyer explains why things like particle size, water-holding capacity and ingredients matter—and why grabbing a bag of regular field soil may not be the best choice for your containers.

Here are some RCEMG members' plant photos!
Since Kansas is the Sunflower State, please enjoy this field of sunflowers on Arlington Road. The variety is NuFarm N4H470CL. A gardener probably won’t be seeing it in a catalog, and the field can't be seen from the road so Jim Doyle wanted to share for all to see!
Also a real beauty, is a photo from Jeanie Johnson! These are blooms of her passion plant on full display! Just glorious!
