Tuckertown Fire Department

Tuckertown Fire Department Home of the Tuckertown "Bandits" the Tuckertown Fire Department has been serving the Town of South Kingstown in fire protection and emergencies since 1978.

TTFD is one of 8 stations that make up the Union Fire District. The Tuckertown Volunteer Fire Department was established on May 12, 1978. The organization was small at first wit
h only a handful of volunteers. Over the years both the Station and the responsibilities of the Station have grown. Tuckertown Fire Department helps 8 other Stations protect the 57.1 square miles that is the Town of South

Kingstown. Our membership has grown to roughly twenty active firefighters as well as several life and associate members. We house three engines at Station 8. We have a Class-A pumper as our first run piece, we have a “brush tanker” for our brush fire operations as well as a brush truck for backup and support. On top of our three trucks in the two bay Station we also house a rescue boat. Currently, the station is going through a major renovation. A new bay and meeting area will be added to the existing station for a total addition of 2500 square feet. Expected completion to be in early spring. Station 8 is not only a crucial role in structural firefighting operations, but a strong force in brush fire operations, the head of search and rescue, and a vital role in water rescue being the first boat in the water for both Wardens Pond, (the biggest pond in the state), and tuckers pond, also a busy fishing and swimming spot. Tuckertowns responsibility has grown exponentially over the years, and is looking at possibly taking on even more responsibility as the immediate area grows and develops. We are still one of the young Stations that make up The Union Fire District, but have proven to be a strong and crucial force that helps protect this town. As the Station grows the need for more volunteers grows. If you or anyone you know is interested in joining Tuckertown Volunteer Fire Department as a Firefighter, a driver, or even an associate member to help behind the scenes, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We are located at 1116 Ministerial Rd., just south of the Tuckertown four corners. You can also reach us at (401) 783-5627, and either speak to one of the members or leave a message. Our drill days are Wednesday night from 6:30-9:00 and on Sunday mornings from 8:00 to 12:00, and our monthly meeting is the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. Feel free to stop by anytime if your interested in serving your community.

Last week was a very busy week for the members of Tuckertown station 8. Members responded mutual aid to 2 major brush fires in neighboring towns along with multiple other calls for service in the town of South Kingstown throughout the week. To end the week, Engine 21 responded first due to a working structure fire in our response area. After forcing entry, engine 21’s crew made an aggressive interior attack along with Engine 18’s crew from Matunuck Fire Department to stop the fire from spreading. We are always looking for more volunteers. Contact us today to learn more about how you can make a difference in our community!

The Tuckertown Fire Department had a busy weekend responding to 16 calls for assistance, with many of them related to burst water pipes due to the extremely cold temperatures. In addition to the burst pipes, the department also responded to a brush fire in Matunuck.

Brush 20’s crew worked swiftly with Matunuck Fire Department to bring the fire under control and extinguish it. The quick response and cooperation between the two stations helped to minimize the damage caused by the fire and ensured the safety of the surrounding community.
