The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department services 16 sq. miles of urban /wildland interface housing with a population of roughly 24,500 people. We are neighbored by our close agency Lake Valley Fire Protection District and on the other side Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District. As a department we strive to provide the utmost excellence in care for our community. Whether it is fire suppression, vehic

le accidents, rescue situations, any kind of medical call, or responding to residences for concerned citizens that need help. As well as this we also provide many community outreach and education programs. Our area promotes some of the most spectacular views of a high alpine lake in the country as well as endless outdoor activities. We are an all risk department which means we aim to tackle any obstacle placed in front of us. Not only are we next to a large body of water, but we also have a local airport, ski resorts, highway’s, and target hazard hotels located within the city limits just to name a few. Our highly trained personnel work around the clock to keep our community safe and we are proud to do it.

At approximately 8pm on Monday 5/18 SLTFR received a call for a sunken vessel at Tahoe Keys Marina. Engine 3 and Truck 2 responded with Vessel Assist to solve the problem. (Cuz that’s what we do!)
The retrieval of the vessel was successful and the lake was not impacted by fluids at all, as they remained contained within the vessel.
The cause of the issue was a leak in the water intake.
No injuries to life or our environment!🙌
Just another day doing our part to help!

SLTFR is proud to welcome the newest member of our Fire family, Firefighter /Paramedic Austin Cia.
Austin previously worked for Wilton Fire Protection District and then Folsom Fire Department where he served as an Engineer for the past 3 years.
Austin and his wife Jessica made the move to South Lake Tahoe, where they will raise their family.
Fire Chief Drennan swore in Austin at a badge pinning ceremony on May 4th.
We are thrilled to have Firefighter/Paramedic Cia on board and he is looking forward to serving his new community with Compassion, Professionalism, and Honor.

Memorial Procession Information – Fire Engineer Neil Schnaible

The Lake Valley Fire Protection District will honor the life and service of Fire Engineer Neil Schnaible with a dignified memorial procession on Friday, May 8. Engineer Schnaible passed away on May 4, following a medical emergency that occurred while on duty on April 29.

The procession will begin at Renown Regional Medical Center (Mill Street) in Reno at 9:00 am, traveling southbound on Interstate 580 before transitioning to westbound U.S. Highway 50, and will conclude on Emerald Bay Road in South Lake Tahoe.
This procession provides an opportunity for family, friends, and members of the fire service to come together to honor Engineer Schnaible’s dedication, service, and commitment to his community.

Please note: This is a private procession. We respectfully ask that the public not join or participate in the procession itself. Those wishing to pay their respects are encouraged to do so safely from along the procession route.
We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we honor our brother in the fire service.
