Brush 6 made it back from the Gann Incident and was only home for a few hours before responding to the Bug Incident north of Reno. They have been at it since they arrived yesterday afternoon.

A little piece of Lake Valley history still rolling strong. 🚒🇺🇸

Purchased in 1947, the same year Lake Valley Fire Protection District was established, this classic apparatus is still in service today—a testament to the pride and tradition that continue to define our District.

We're proud to share that it was named Best Classic Auto in this year's 4th of July Parade! 🏆

A big shout out to Andrew Sessions for keeping this historic engine looking its absolute best. Thank you for helping preserve a piece of Lake Valley Fire history for our community to enjoy.

Today, June 24, 2026, marks the 19th anniversary of the devastating Angora Fire near South Lake Tahoe.

The Angora Fire started off Seneca Drive near the North Upper Truckee Road neighborhood at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2007. Fire investigators determined the wildfire was caused by an abandoned, illegal campfire that was left unattended and escaped sometime between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

The wind-driven fire burned approximately 3,100 acres of National Forest land and destroyed 242 homes, 67 commercial structures, and damaged 35 other homes. At the peak of the fire, there were as many as 2,180 firefighters battling the blaze. The fire cost $11.7 million to fight, and caused at least $141 million in property damage.

Learning from the past helps prepare us for the future. Remember, wildfire prevention is everyone's responsibility!! Campfires (including wood, charcoal or any other solid fuels) are only permitted within permanent, iron rings in developed campgrounds that are open for the season, and when enhanced fire restrictions are not in place.

Portable stoves with on/off switches/valves are allowed in other areas with a valid permit you can get online at www.readyforwildfire.org/permits.

Draft Hazard Mitigation Plan – Open for public comment thru July 13, 2026

STPUD and LVFPD are now soliciting public comment on the draft Hazard Mitigation Plan before it is finalized and submitted to FEMA for review and approval. The public comment period is open from June 22, 2026 to July 13, 2026. Follow the link below to provide feedback on the plan.

It's that time of year again!

All open burning and solid-fuel recreational fires are prohibited during fire season.

Only Natural Gas (NG) and Propane (LPG) outdoor fire pits, barbecues, and pellet grills/smokers are permitted during fire season and must be operated according to the manufacturer's instructions. However, all outdoor flame-producing devices, including gas and propane appliances, are prohibited during Red Flag Warnings and other critical fire weather conditions.
Open-flame devices such as tiki torches and all fireworks, including sparklers and firecrackers are illegal in California year-round.
To report hazardous or illegal campfires, call 9-1-1. Illegal fireworks activity should be reported to local law enforcement at (530) 573-3000.
