To my neighbors, supporters, and friends,
It is with deep sadness and profound frustration that I am announcing my resignation of my position as South Milwaukee’s Municipal Court Judge, effective immediately (9/19).
I want to be very clear: I am not resigning because I feel I have done anything wrong. This decision should not be viewed as a lack of commitment to this court, my staff, the justice system, or the South Milwaukee community. Serving in this role has been a great privilege, and a responsibility that I took very seriously. I am devastated to let go of the meaningful work we accomplished in this court, especially for those in the most need of understanding, support, and justice.
Unfortunately, what should have been a professional, open, and honest conversation was instead escalated into a complaint filed by the South Milwaukee Chief of Police to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office. This resulted in a targeted and intrusive attack against me and my husband that unfairly called into question my credibility, professionalism, and ethics. I am truly disappointed in these actions and the subsequent outcome.
Though today I must tender my resignation, it remains my hope that the City of South Milwaukee will continue to uphold principles of fairness, equity, and justice for all of its residents.
