🔹Lab 5: Field Training Exercise (FTX)🔹
This past weekend, Pirate Battalion cadets traveled to Fort Dix for our annual Field Training Exercise (FTX)! Over the course of the weekend, cadets were challenged and tested on physical fitness, land navigation, and warrior tasks to prepare them for Cadet Summer Training (CST) and/or Basic Camp.
Day One kicked off with Day and Night Land Navigation. MS1s navigated in groups of four, MS2s in pairs, and MS3s tackled the course solo. Cadets also rotated through stations with MSIV primary and alternate instructors, where they were evaluated on key warrior skills (M4, M240B, M249, and the RT-1523 SINCGARS).
Day Two began with a physical fitness competition in teams of 6–7. The event included four challenging stations: Literally Dead, Metal Mover, O-Course, and Tactical Gauntlet. Following the competition, cadets received hands-on training with grenades—practicing both throwing techniques and immediate action drills.
To close out the weekend, cadets were honored with a surprise visit from COL Michael E. Erlandson, 2nd Brigade Commander. Thank you, sir, for taking the time to meet with Pirate Battalion and for your dedication to our brigade—it was truly a pleasure!
Finally, a huge thank you to all cadets and cadre who planned, executed, and supported this FTX. Outstanding job, Pirate Battalion!
