🔹Lab 5: Field Training Exercise (FTX)🔹

This past weekend, Pirate Battalion cadets traveled to Fort Dix for our annual Field Training Exercise (FTX)! Over the course of the weekend, cadets were challenged and tested on physical fitness, land navigation, and warrior tasks to prepare them for Cadet Summer Training (CST) and/or Basic Camp.

Day One kicked off with Day and Night Land Navigation. MS1s navigated in groups of four, MS2s in pairs, and MS3s tackled the course solo. Cadets also rotated through stations with MSIV primary and alternate instructors, where they were evaluated on key warrior skills (M4, M240B, M249, and the RT-1523 SINCGARS).

Day Two began with a physical fitness competition in teams of 6–7. The event included four challenging stations: Literally Dead, Metal Mover, O-Course, and Tactical Gauntlet. Following the competition, cadets received hands-on training with grenades—practicing both throwing techniques and immediate action drills.

To close out the weekend, cadets were honored with a surprise visit from COL Michael E. Erlandson, 2nd Brigade Commander. Thank you, sir, for taking the time to meet with Pirate Battalion and for your dedication to our brigade—it was truly a pleasure!

Finally, a huge thank you to all cadets and cadre who planned, executed, and supported this FTX. Outstanding job, Pirate Battalion!

🔹Lab 4: Land Navigation🔹

On Friday, our cadets rucked 4 miles as part of PT and then applied their skills in a land navigation lab at Rutgers–New Brunswick. The lab emphasized terrain association, compass work, and teamwork in an unfamiliar field.

Special thank you to Rutgers-New Brunswick for allowing us to use your campus and course!

🔹CST 2025 🔹

This summer our MS4’s worked harder than anyone else! 19 strong. 19 leaders. 19 cadets who pushed past their limits and came out forged in discipline, grit, and pride. From Cadet Summer Training to the next mission—this is only the beginning. They persevered through difficult land navigation courses, brutal AFT’s and more. Let’s take the time to celebrate and congratulate them on this achievement!

Your SHU family is proud of you!

🔹Lab 3: Introduction to Tactics Lab 🔹

During lab today, our cadets built on their warrior tasks, drills, and leadership skills in both garrison and tactical environments. Our cadets rotated through stations to build foundational warrior skills and leadership knowledge. Here’s what they tackled:

Station 1: Cover & Concealment
Cadets learned the difference between cover and concealment, practiced camouflaging with face paint, and executed Individual Movement Techniques to standardize tactical movement.

Station 2: Leadership Roles
Cadets were introduced to key leadership positions at the team, squad, and platoon level including TL, SL, PSG, Medic, RTO, and PL to better understand their responsibilities.

Station 3: Formation & Order of Movement
Cadets practiced squad and platoon formations, learned when to use them, and explored the three types of overwatch to prepare for future tactical lanes.

And last but not least…

⭐ Cadets of the Week: Cadet Sager and Cadet Awad! Both cadets are members of Ranger Challenge and go above and beyond. Congratulations, keep working hard!

On September 8, Seton Hall ROTC along with the FDNY held a remembrance ceremony for a great man who sacrificed his life on 9/11: Captain Mark Whitford. Captain Whitford was a Pirate Battalion alumni, a New York Fire Fighter, and much more.

We want to thank everyone who attended and participated in this remembrance.
