P.O. Dsurney has arrived safely in Washington DC after participating in the Police Unity Tour. This 300 mile bicycle journey over 4 days, starting in Northern NJ and culminating in Washington DC at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, honors and remembers our fallen brother and sister law enforcement officers and marks the beginning of National Police Week.

We are heartbroken and devastated to share that an officer from Newark PD has made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and another officer is currently fighting for their life in critical condition. Please keep their families, fellow Newark PD officers, and our entire New Jersey law enforcement community in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

SOPD is still in need of school crossing guards! We have open school crossing guard positions and guess what, we've increased our starting pay to $23.00/hr! Join us, pass this along to someone who may be interested and of course, share to your social media & Facebook groups to help us spread the word!

The South Orange Police Department is looking for dependable adults to fill part time and per diem School Crossing Guard positions. Your duty would be to ensure the safety of children and other pedestrians as they cross the street before and after school.

While wearing your safety vest, you will check for oncoming traffic, step into the road, and direct vehicles to come to a stop before instructing people to cross. Although this job requires minimal hours, you must be comfortable working outdoors in various types of weather. You will need your own vehicle, cell phone and meet other requirements.

Our guards work approximately 10 hours per week, (2 hours per day, Mon-Fri) Starting pay is $23.00 per hour and all necessary equipment is provided. If interested, contact Sergeant Jose Albino at [email protected] for details.

Attention South Orange Residents!!!
Protect yourself and your loved ones by staying informed about the latest scams.
Protect Yourself and Report Scams
• Stay vigilant. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
• Contact the South Orange Police Department at 973-763-3000 (Non-Emergency Number) to report any scams or suspicious activity.
• Educate your loved ones, especially seniors, about these scams.

Common schemes include:
Phishing Emails: Fraudulent messages claiming to be from banks, delivery services, or popular companies, asking for login credentials or payments.
Online Shopping Scams: Fake websites offering too-good-to-be-true deals or demanding payment upfront without delivering goods.
Phishing Letters: Letters claiming / threatening they will email your contacts of alleged inappropriate activity.
What to Do:
Do not click on links or open attachments from unknown senders.
Verify website legitimacy by checking reviews and the URL (look for “https”).
Do not respond letters phishing style letters.

Attached is an example of a phishing letter that has been circulating.

***SOPD WINTER COAT DRIVE***

South Orange Police Department PBA Local 12 are once again hosting a Winter Coat Drive to help the less fortunate keep warm during the winter months. We are asking for your help!!!

Make room & clean out your closets!!!

We are accepting unsoiled used and new coats for adults and children. Donated coats will be distributed to local residents and charities. Your donated coats can be dropped off at South Orange Police Headquarters in the front lobby. Donation Deadline is December 1st.

Coats will be distributed on Sunday December 8th, 2024 from 10am-2pm, at the Sloan Street Gazebo.
