🌴 Mayor’s Research: Allowable Plants in the Master Corridor

As part of my ongoing homework for discussions about improving the look of South Ocean Boulevard (A1A), here’s a quick look at what appears to be possible under FDOT rules.
The strips next to the road are FDOT right-of-way, so any landscaping must meet their safety and clear-zone requirements.

✅ What appears to be generally allowable (with FDOT approval):

Palm trees 🌴
Sea grape & silver buttonwood
Low native groundcovers and grasses
Limited landscaping that stays clear of sight lines

❌ What appears to be more difficult or restricted:

Large canopy shade trees inside the clear zone
Plantings that block driver visibility
Structures or hardscape without proper permits

I’m exploring every practical option that can make our corridor more attractive while staying within the rules. The goal is simple — improve the appearance and quality of life in South Palm Beach.
