City staff are continuing to work across the city to clear roads of trees. We still have many trees on power lines that cannot be addressed until CMP makes the lines safe. If there is a power line down in your neighborhood, please report it to CMP.

The City responded to over 60 tree calls on Thursday and that number is likely to increase over the next few days. We have weeks of work ahead of us and are prioritizing public safety and make roads passable. Road sweeping will be coming. Thank you for your continued patience as we recover from this storm.

Our Parks crews are assessing trees in our public parks and removing safety hazards. This will take some time. The Greenbelt is blocked in many spots from downed trees. Use of City parks is at your own risk at this time until our crews have completed this work. Thank you for your understanding and caution.

Free brush disposal for South Portland residents only (no contractors) is available at the South Portland Transfer Station until 3:30 PM on Saturday, August 22. This includes brush, branches, logs and small stumps up to 6” in diameter. Resident permit is required. The Transfer Station is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 8 AM to 3:30 PM.

The City will be coming around to pick up branches that fell from public trees ONLY in the coming days and weeks. The City will not pick up branches or other debris from private property. Property owners should drop these at the Transfer Station, free of charge, as outlined above. Please do not place any debris from your property onto the curb.

Please report any unreported City tree damage through our online work order system: arcweb.southportland.org/CitizenRequestPortal. You can also contact Andy Gagnon, City Arborist, at [email protected] or (207) 767-7670. If you have a question about whether a damaged tree is on public or private property, Andy can assist. Please have patience, as he will be working through many requests.

Greenbelt Trail Repair Notice

Beginning Monday, July 27, the Public Works Department will be repairing a section of the Greenbelt Trail between Sawyer Street and Stanford Street. The work is expected to take approximately one week to complete.

During construction, this section of the Greenbelt will be closed. A signed detour will be available via Kincaid Street.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while these improvements are being completed.

Wet Paint!
Crews will be freshening the linestriping on our City’s roads during the next few overnights. (Tuesday – Friday 7pm-6am, weather permitting) If you encounter the painting vehicle, please allow plenty of space as you follow and don’t drive over the wet paint. The vehicle will let you pass when it’s safe to do so.

The Transfer Facility is open Sundays this month (May) from 8 AM to 3:30 PM.

There is no spring curbside leaf or yard debris collection, but these items can be brought to the Transfer Facility at no charge for leaves/yard debris (residents only) and $5-$50 for brush, branches, logs and stumps up to 6” diameter.
