FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Earlier today, June 3, 2026, the South Portland Police Department and the Southern Maine Regional SWAT Team executed a high-risk search warrant at a single-family residence located at 65 Florence Street.

During the operation, detectives located black powder and an unidentified suspicious substance. To ensure public safety, the South Portland Fire Department and the Portland Bomb Squad were called to the scene for an evaluation. As a precautionary measure, residents of neighboring homes were evacuated.

John Flumerfelt, 40, the only resident at the address, was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland County Jail. He currently faces a charge of Criminal Use of Explosives, while potential additional charges concerning firearm offenses remain under investigation.

The South Portland Police Department has since determined that the area is safe and there is no ongoing threat to the community.

We would like to thank the public for their patience and cooperation during the service of this warrant. We recognize that road closures and evacuations are inconvenient and difficult, but such steps are often necessary to ensure the safety of all involved.
