We mourn the death of our fallen hero, one of South River’s own, Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. As Officer Sicknick was a South River Native, this heartbreaking news is all the more devastating. We are always saddened by the loss of life. This loss brings a shaking reminder that events that may not appear to affect us in our day-to-day lives are in fact just a breath away from touching us personally. We may not agree and may not be perfect in our thoughts and deeds but in God’s eyes we, as his children are perfect. So, we must strive to prove ourselves worthy of this gift of life and celebrate all of God’s children no matter what our differences may be. This is a time to come together, grieve together, respect each other’s differences, and strive to make this a better place for ourselves, our children, our town, and our country. God Bless you Officer Sicknick, God Bless your family, God Bless our town and God Bless our Country.🙏

Every year the Cultural Arts and Heritage Commission proudly coordinates the South River Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony. Sadly, due to the COVID-19 outbreak and following the Governor’s Orders along with the direction of our local authorities, we are unable to do so this year. Again, there will be no parade or public ceremony this year. Please stay safe and proudly display your American flag on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th in honor of our fallen heroes. Thank you and God Bless.

The result of the efforts of this group & thanks to the South River Police Department- the South River Special Needs Registry is launched:

The South River Special Needs Registry is a voluntary service open to all citizens with special needs who reside, attend school, or are employed in South River. The registry was created to help Police Officers and other emergency personnel better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency, by providing those first responders with vital information regarding a registrant's special needs, emergency contact information, physical description and current photograph.
