The South River Police Department invites all community members to join us for "Coffee with a Cop" on Wednesday, February 26th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Dunkin' Donuts of South River located at 75 Main Street.

Officers from our Department will come together with community members in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. "Coffee with a Cop" provides a unique opportunity for community members to spend time with officers, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in South River in a relaxed, informal environment.

The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. "Coffee with a Cop" breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

"Coffee with a Cop" is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the country as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.

A very special thank you to Dunkin' Donuts for graciously opening their doors and allowing us to bring another "Coffee with a Cop" event to the South River community.

Can't make this one? Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and NIXLE for additional "Coffee with a Cop" dates throughout the year.

**MOSQUITO SPRAYING**

Weather conditions permitting, the Middlesex County Mosquito Commission will be conducting spraying in South River tomorrow, August 15th between the hours of 6:00pm and midnight. The rain date for the spraying is Friday, August 16th.

A map of the area being treated is available at the following link:

https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1qftfVLI4lYfKV7BWTRwzJyen6LI&ll=40.436853962887945%2C-74.3712175&z=15

The US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) & Rutgers University has approved and recommended these mosquito control products for residential mosquito control and considers them to pose no unreasonable health risk when applied according to label directions. Neither the USEPA nor NJ Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) requires relocating or taking special precautions during spraying however, residents can take following precautions to reduce exposure:

• Plan your activities to limit time spent outside during times of possible insecticide treatments. Move your pets, their food, and water dishes inside during ULV application. Also bring clothing and children’s toys inside. Stay away from application equipment, whether in use or not.

• Whenever possible, remain indoors with windows closed and with window air conditioners on non-vent (closed to the outside air) and window fans turned off during spraying.

• Avoid direct contact with surfaces that are still wet from pesticide spraying. Do not allow children to play in areas that have been sprayed until they have completely dried (approximately one hour).

• If you must remain outdoors, avoid eye and skin contact with the spray. If you get spray in your eyes or on your skin, immediately flush and rinse with water.
