๐Ÿ”ฅ RACE and PASS: What to Do in Case of Fire!

Fire emergencies can be chaotic, but knowing what to do can make a difference when every second counts.

RACE โ€“ Your Immediate Response

R โ€“ Rescue: Help anyone in immediate danger, but only if it is safe to do so.

A โ€“ Alarm: Activate the fire alarm, alert others, and call emergency responders.

C โ€“ Contain: Close doors behind you as you evacuate to help slow the spread of fire and smoke.

E โ€“ Extinguish or Evacuate: Prioritize evacuation. Only attempt to extinguish a small, early-stage fire if youโ€™re trained and conditions are safe.

๐Ÿงฏ PASS โ€“ How to Use a Fire Extinguisher

P โ€“ Pull the pin.

A โ€“ Aim at the base of the fire.

S โ€“ Squeeze the lever.

S โ€“ Sweep from side to side.

โš ๏ธ Remember: Never risk your life to fight a fire. Use the correct extinguisher, keep a clear escape route behind you, and leave immediately if the fire grows or smoke thickens.

Once outside, stay outside!

Fire safety starts with knowing what to do before an emergency happens.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Quick question: If you discovered a fire in your workplace, what would you do first?

Share this reminder. One informed decision could save a life!

๐Ÿš’ South Roxana Fire Department Announces Two Captain Promotions! ๐Ÿš’

At tonightโ€™s monthly meeting, Deputy Chief Cherry and I were pleased to announce the promotion of two individuals to the rank of Captain within the South Roxana Fire Department.

Congratulations to Captain Lauren Clendenen!
Lauren has served as a Lieutenant for nearly a year and has been a member of the South Roxana Fire Department for four years. During her time with the department, she has demonstrated strong leadership, dedication, and a commitment to continually improving herself and those around her. In addition to serving our community as a firefighter, Lauren also serves as a police officer with the South Roxana Police Department. Her dedication to public service makes her a valued member of our first responder community.

Congratulations to Captain Derrick Masulla!
Derrick has been a member of the South Roxana Fire Department for six months and brings five years of previous fire service experience from the Roxana Fire Department. He has also recently begun working as a firefighter at the refinery, continuing to build his career in the fire service. Derrick is currently enrolled in the Basic Operations of Firefighting course through the Illinois Fire Service Institute, further demonstrating his commitment to learning and professional development.

Please join us in congratulating Captain Clendenen and Captain Masulla on their well-deserved promotions!

๐Ÿš’ TRAINING NIGHT | PUMP OPERATIONS ๐Ÿš’

Last night, the members of the South Roxana Fire Department completed pump operations training, focusing on the skills and knowledge needed to efficiently operate our apparatus and deliver water when it matters most.

Our crews worked through hands-on scenarios, reinforcing proper pump operation, water supply, hose line management, and communication between firefighters.

Training like this ensures our members are prepared to perform safely and effectively when the call comes in. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ

A big thank you to all of our members who took the time to train and continue sharpening their skills.

Two of our newer firefighters, Heather and Amber, were invited to attend Ignite Her, a three-day weekend training program hosted by the QEM Fire District for women in the fire service.

They took the initiative to spend their weekend learning, training, and building their skills in the fire service. Weโ€™re proud to see them investing in themselves and continuing to learn the craft.

Great job, Heather and Amber! Keep putting in the work and sharpening your skills! ๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ
