FYI - A number of solicitor permits were issued today and the individuals will be out going door to door. Anyone approved by the South Russell Police Department will have a yellow permit with a red lanyard. If you have a clearly posted “No Soliciting” sign, they should not visit your residence.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch with potential for heavy snow and sub-zero wind chills in the coming days. Due to the limited availability of salt, the South Russell Service Department will be taking proactive steps to conserve salt while working to maintain safe road conditions. Priority will be given to main roads and major intersections. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we responsibly manage resources to keep our roads as safe as possible.

Please use extreme caution while driving during hazardous weather conditions. Parking on Village roadways will be prohibited beginning tonight at midnight through the weekend. Please stay safe!

Last night at the South Russell Village Council Meeting, Lieutenant Nick DiVita was sworn in by Mayor Koons.

Nick has been a law enforcement officer for over 21 years and has been with South Russell since 2013. He also serves as a part-time officer with the Hunting Valley Police Department.

Nick’s credentials are quite impressive, but most importantly, he’s earned the respect of his fellow officers by providing support, guidance, and strong leadership through the years.

He’s taken on administrative duties and responsibilities without hesitation or expectations. Nick does what needs to be done, and he’s been a tremendous asset to the operation.

Nick serves as our Field Training Officer and Fi****ms instructor. He is the commander of the Valley Enforcement Group’s UAS Team, overseeing 22 officers and support staff. This incredible team which is based out of the South Russell Police Department, is the most utilized specialty team in VEG.

Nick enthusiastically supports the mission of the South Russell Police Department and is committed to serving this amazing community.

He’s done an outstanding job helping us keep the department moving in the right direction.

Congratulations to Sergeant Ed Svoboda on his much deserved retirement! Ed spent over 25 years with the South Russell Police Department and served the department in many capacities. He will truly be missed. Thank you for 25 years of loyal service to the Village of South Russell!
