Storms may develop today (6/10) between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes are all possible.

What’s changed since yesterday: The Enhanced Risk area has shifted east, but South St. Paul remains in the area where severe weather is possible today.

Keep an eye on the forecast this afternoon, especially if you have outdoor plans.

The good news is, cooler and less active weather is expected Thursday into the weekend.

Stay safe, South St. Paul!

The National Weather Service is tracking hot, humid weather and a chance for severe storms today (6/9) and Wednesday (6/10).

Tonight into early Wednesday morning: Storms may move into Minnesota after midnight and continue east. Damaging winds are the main threat.

Wednesday afternoon and evening: More storms may develop, with damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes all possible.

Now is a good time to review your severe weather plan:
• Know where you would go if a warning is issued.
• Keep phones charged and have a way to get weather alerts.
• Secure loose outdoor items, such as patio furniture, garbage bins, and umbrellas.

We will share updates as needed.

During routine testing, the City has found that the outdoor warning siren located on the roof of City Hall is currently out of service. The City is actively working on replacement and expects the siren to be replaced later this summer. This affects the City Hall roof siren only.

For severe weather warnings, please continue to use tools such as the NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts, local TV and radio, and trusted weather apps.

An update will be shared when the siren is back in service.

Rest in peace Lt. Uthe

Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of Lt. Tyler Uthe, a respected leader, a dedicated servant and friend. His loss is being felt deeply across our agency and by all who had the privilege to serve alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Tyler’s family, friends, loved ones and fellow troopers during this incredibly difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy as they grieve.

As we mourn Tyler’s loss, we are reminded that even those who spend their lives helping others sometimes need help themselves. No one should have to carry life's challenges alone. If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de and Crisis Lifeline for support.

Tyler’s impact on this agency and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.

The Dakota County Drug Task Force is warning residents about an increase in fatal and non-fatal overdoses in Dakota County over the past week.

This may signal an increased presence of fentanyl in circulating illegal drugs.

Know the signs of an opioid overdose:
• Loss of consciousness
• Slow, shallow, erratic, or stopped breathing
• Blue, purple, gray, or ashen skin tone
• Choking, gurgling, or snore-like sounds
• Vomiting
• Limp body

Naloxone, also known as Narcan, can reverse an opioid overdose if given in time.
Find naloxone near you: https://knowthedangers.com/naloxone-finder

• For emergencies: call 911.
• For mental health or emotional support: call or text 988.

Heads up, South St. Paul: You may soon spot a large drone near areas with standing water.

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District will be using drones to help control mosquitoes in our area. The drones treat areas of standing water with a dry granule that targets mosquito larvae. The material is not harmful to people, pets, or wildlife.

The drones fly about 150 to 200 feet above wetlands. MMCD staff will be nearby and will keep the drone in sight while it is in use. Staff will wear yellow high-visibility vests marked “Public Health Mosquito Control.”

You may also see large orange signs that say “Mosquito Control Drone Use” near drone takeoff areas. MMCD staff may knock on doors near active treatment areas to let residents know work is taking place.

These drones help MMCD reach mosquito-breeding areas that are hard to access on foot or too small for helicopter treatment.
