Rescue 101 SAR, Inc. is a volunteer-based search, rescue, disaster response, and emergency services organization committed to serving individuals, families, public safety agencies, and communities when they need help most. Our personnel train and operate across a variety of disciplines, providing specialized capabilities for Wilderness Search, Rescue & Recovery; Urban Search and Rescue; Disaster R

esponse & Recovery; Incident Management Team (IMT) support; Event Medical Services; and Public Education & Outreach Programs. From searching remote terrain for a missing person to supporting communities impacted by severe weather and disasters, our mission is centered on preparedness, teamwork, professionalism, and service. We work alongside emergency management agencies, fire departments, law enforcement, EMS, nonprofit organizations, and other response partners to provide additional personnel, resources, and specialized capabilities during planned events and emergency operations. Our Incident Management Team provides command, coordination, planning, logistics, and operational support for searches, disasters, special events, and other complex incidents. Our Search and Rescue teams respond to incidents involving missing, lost, endangered, or injured persons in wilderness, rural, urban, and disaster environments. When circumstances require it, our personnel also support recovery operations with compassion, professionalism, and respect for the individuals and families involved. During disasters, Rescue 101 SAR can deploy trained personnel and specialized resources to assist affected communities with response and recovery operations. Our goal is to help fill critical needs, support local agencies, and bring capable resources where they can make the greatest difference. Through our Event Medical Services, trained medical personnel provide on-site medical coverage and emergency care for community events, festivals, races, public gatherings, and other special events. Our mission also extends beyond emergency response. Through Public Education and Outreach, we work to help individuals and communities become safer, better prepared, and more resilient through preparedness education, safety programs, demonstrations, community events, and public engagement. Rescue 101 SAR is built around a simple commitment: when the call comes, we stand ready to serve.

Flooded roads can be far more dangerous than they appear. It only takes a small amount of moving water to create a life-threatening situation.

⚠️ Remember:
• Just 6 inches of moving water can knock an adult off their feet.
• Around 12 inches of moving water can carry away many vehicles.
• Never drive around barricades or attempt to cross a flooded roadway.
• Water may be deeper or moving faster than it looks—and the roadway underneath may be damaged or completely washed away.

No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of the responders who may have to come rescue you.

When you encounter a flooded roadway, make the safe choice:

Tuesday Morning Weather Safety Reminder | July 21, 2026

Severe thunderstorms are expected across portions of the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast today. While damaging straight-line winds are expected to be the primary threat, large hail and tornadoes are also possible.

Now is the time to review your severe weather plan—before storms arrive.

🌪️ Know the Difference

🟡 Tornado Watch
Conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.
✔️ Stay alert.
✔️ Monitor weather updates.
✔️ Be prepared to move to shelter quickly.

🔴 Tornado Warning
A tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar.
🚨 Take shelter immediately.
Every second counts.

🏠 If You're at Home

✅ Go to the lowest level of the building if possible.
✅ Move to an interior room, hallway, bathroom, or closet away from windows.
✅ Protect your head and neck with a mattress, heavy blanket, pillows, or a helmet.
❌ Do NOT waste time opening windows—it is a dangerous myth and provides no protection.

🚗 If You're Driving

🚙 If you can safely drive away from the storm's path, do so.
🏢 If a sturdy building is nearby, leave your vehicle and seek shelter inside.
❌ Never shelter under an overpass or bridge. Wind speeds can actually increase beneath them, and flying debris remains extremely dangerous.

📺 Local television and radio
📡 Trusted weather apps

Remember: Outdoor warning sirens are designed for people who are outside. Do not rely on them to wake you or alert you while indoors.

⛈️ During Severe Thunderstorms

💨 Stay away from windows.
🔌 Unplug sensitive electronics if time permits.
🌳 Avoid trees, power lines, and flooded roadways after the storm.
⚡ If you hear thunder, you're close enough to be struck by lightning—move indoors immediately.

Preparedness saves lives. Take a few minutes this morning to identify your safe shelter location and make sure everyone in your family knows where to go if a warning is issued.

Tuesday, July 21, 2026

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of the Ohio Valley, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast under an ENHANCED RISK (Level 3 of 5) for severe thunderstorms on Tuesday.

⚠️ Numerous severe thunderstorms are expected, with the primary threat being widespread damaging straight-line winds, although all severe weather hazards are possible.

Expected Hazards

🌬️ Damaging Winds (Primary Threat)

Wind gusts capable of downing trees and power lines
Scattered power outages possible
Structural damage to weaker buildings and temporary structures

🧊 Large Hail

Hail up to or exceeding 1 inch in diameter is possible
Can damage vehicles, roofs, and crops

🌪️ Tornadoes

A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out, especially across eastern Ohio, Pennsylvania, and portions of the Mid-Atlantic.
Some storms may briefly become supercells capable of producing tornadoes.

⛈️ Timing

Thunderstorms may begin during the late morning, with the greatest threat expected Tuesday afternoon through the evening and into the overnight hours.
If You Live in the Risk Area

✅ Monitor trusted weather sources throughout the day.
✅ Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings (NOAA Weather Radio, Wireless Emergency Alerts, local media, weather apps).
✅ Secure outdoor furniture, tents, and loose objects before storms arrive.
✅ If a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning is issued, seek sturdy shelter immediately.
✅ Avoid driving through flooded roadways or into areas with downed trees or power lines.

For Outdoor Events

Organizations, event planners, and outdoor recreation groups should closely monitor weather conditions and be prepared to postpone or suspend activities if storms approach. Severe weather can develop rapidly.

🚨 Remember: An Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) means numerous severe storms are expected, and some could become significant. Don't focus only on tornadoes—damaging straight-line winds can be just as destructive.

Preserving Clues During an Active Search

When someone is missing, many people want to help right away — and that willingness to help matters. However, during an active search, well-intentioned actions can unintentionally disturb important clues.

Footprints, scent articles, clothing, personal property, vehicle tracks, trash, and other small details may help investigators and search teams understand where the missing person has been and where they may have gone.

• During an active search:
• Do not enter restricted search areas unless instructed.
• Do not move or handle items that may belong to the missing person.
• Do not disturb footprints, tracks, or possible evidence.
• Do not organize independent search efforts in the area without coordination.
• Follow all law-enforcement instructions.

Report anything unusual immediately, including the location, description, and any photos if it is safe and appropriate to take them without disturbing the area.

The best way to help is to protect the scene, follow directions, and share information quickly. Preserving clues can make a major difference in helping search teams bring someone home.

Not All Medical Emergencies Happen Next to an Ambulance

When someone is injured at a sporting event, community festival, remote hiking trail, or during a search and rescue operation, medical care looks very different than what most people experience in a doctor's office or emergency department.

Wilderness and event medical support is about bringing trained medical providers to the patient—wherever they are.

Unlike routine medical care, responders often face unique challenges such as:

🌲 Remote Locations – Patients may be miles from the nearest road or ambulance, requiring responders to hike in with medical equipment and safely carry the patient back out.

⏱️ Extended Care – Transport to a hospital may take significantly longer, meaning providers must monitor, treat, and stabilize patients for extended periods.

🌦️ Environmental Hazards – Extreme heat, cold, rain, difficult terrain, wildlife, and darkness all become part of the medical scene and must be managed alongside the patient's injuries or illness.

🎪 Large Public Events – At festivals, races, and community events, medical teams provide rapid assessment and treatment on-site, helping attendees while reducing the burden on local EMS resources whenever appropriate.

🤝 Team-Based Response – Wilderness and event medical providers work closely with fire departments, EMS, law enforcement, park personnel, and emergency management agencies to ensure patients receive the safest and most effective care possible.

Preparation, training, and teamwork are what make these missions successful. Every patient deserves professional, compassionate care, whether they're in the middle of a city park, deep in the backcountry, or attending a community event.

What Should You Carry on a Day Hike?

Whether you're heading out for a short walk in your local park or spending the day exploring the trails, being prepared can make all the difference if something goes wrong.

Rescue 101 Search and Rescue recommends carrying these essentials on every day hike:

🎒 Water – Bring more than you think you'll need and stay hydrated throughout your hike.

🥪 Snacks – High-energy foods like trail mix, protein bars, or jerky can keep your energy up.

🗺️ Map & Navigation – Carry a trail map and know how to use it. Download offline maps before leaving cell service.

🔋 Charged Cell Phone & Backup Battery – Your phone can be a valuable emergency tool, but batteries drain quickly.

🔦 Flashlight or Headlamp – Even if you plan to finish before dark, unexpected delays can happen.

🧥 Extra Clothing – Pack a lightweight rain jacket or an extra layer. Weather can change rapidly.

🩹 Small First Aid Kit – Include bandages, blister care, antiseptic wipes, medications, and any personal medical supplies.

🔪 Multi-Tool or Knife – A compact tool can help with minor repairs and unexpected situations.

🔥 Emergency Shelter & Fire Starter – An emergency blanket and waterproof matches or a lighter can be lifesaving if you're stranded.
