A little rain couldn’t stop our five South Lake Fire recruits today! 🌧️🚒

They were out in the storm learning vehicle extrication, the kind of hands-on training that prepares them to serve our community when it matters most. 💪❤️

Paramedic Doug Berg was recognized today by UVU and Paramedic Class 54 for being an outstanding paramedic preceptor.

If you know Doug, this isn’t surprising. He’s knowledgeable, compassionate, and great at his job. PM Berg truly sets a great example and holds a high standard not only of himself but of the students as well.

Congratulations PM Berg! Well deserved.

After 10 months of school including hundreds of hours of clinical rotations and ride alongs, congratulations goes out to Paramedic Cody Calley on graduating from UVUs paramedic program, class 53!

PM Calley was named class Valedictorian as well as Class Lead. He set the standard all year with his dedication, leadership, and drive.

We’re so proud of everything he’s accomplished and even more excited to see him step into this next chapter—serving the South Salt Lake community as a paramedic and firefighter.

Congratulations Cody. Well done.

South Salt Lake Fire had another member recognized today, Paramedic Eric Schroeder was highlighted as an outstanding preceptor to this class. Eric is a wealth of knowledge. His willingness to share and style of teaching was recognized by UVU and class 53 today. Great job, PM Schroeder. Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge with the newest generation.

🚨 New Tools for Better Care! 🚨
We’re excited to add Autism Response Bags to our rigs! These bags contain simple but effective tools to help our firefighters provide better care when responding to patients with autism. Items like sound-blocking headphones, fidget toys, and alternative communication tools can make a huge difference in reducing stress and improving interactions on scene with better patient care.
A huge thank you to the Autism Council of Utah for providing these resources and supporting our mission to serve ALL members of our community with care and understanding.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of retired Fire Chief Steve Foote, who led our department with distinction from Chief Foote’s dedication to service and his unwavering commitment to our community left a lasting legacy. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Chief.
