This morning, the steps of South San Francisco City Hall came alive with the voices and energy of hundreds of students as we kicked off Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day.

What began right here in South San Francisco has grown into a statewide recognition thanks to the leadership of Senator Josh Becker, .becker.ca and now a national movement for justice, equity, and inclusion.

I am deeply proud of the advocacy, organizing, and courage of our students and community leaders who made this possible. Ruby Bridges’ walk was a defining moment in history and today, our young people are carrying that legacy forward.

Here in South San Francisco, we don’t wait to lead. We step up when we see opportunities to advance justice, equity, and inclusion. That’s who we are. That’s what we stand for.

Grateful for every partner, schools, families and teachers and every student, and every leader who walked with us today. Together, we are building a future rooted in courage and hope.

📸✨ ¡Sí se pudo! This week we broke ground on a dream: The new Orange Clubhouse Complex right here in South San Francisco!

With golden shovels in hand and our community by our side, students, families, BGCP staff, elected leaders, and generous donors, we celebrated the start of a $27.3 MILLION investment in our youth.

And here’s the best part: it’s already fully funded, thanks to the incredible generosity of partners like the Sobrato Family Foundation, Sand Hill Foundation, and so many others who believe in our kids and our city’s future.

This isn’t just a building. It’s a beacon. A promise that over 440+ SSF youth — from elementary through high school — will have access to expanded academic support, wellness services, career pathways, and a safe space to grow, dream, and lead!

To our partners: Hunter Properties, the South San Francisco City Council, and the visionary team at BGCP, thank you for your leadership and heart.

Juntos, estamos construyendo un futuro lleno de esperanza y oportunidades. Together we are building a future filled with hope and opportunities.

This is what happens when a city believes in its youth. When we honor legacy and invest in tomorrow. When we say, loud and clear: South San Francisco is building for the future, and the future is now.

North County United: Strategic Collaboration in Action

Last month I had the pleasure of hosting at South San Francisco City Hall our second North San Mateo County Mayors & City Managers Roundtable — a powerful gathering of leadership from South San Francisco, Millbrae, San Bruno, Brisbane, and the Town of Colma.

Together, we’re building more than just policy, we’re building trust, alignment, and a shared vision for our communities.

Honoring the Brave:
South San Francisco Remembers 🇺🇸💙

Today, we pause to remember the courageous men and women who gave everything to defend our freedom. Memorial Day is not just a holiday—it’s a solemn promise to never forget their sacrifice.

In South San Francisco, we hold deep gratitude for the service members who once walked our streets, called our city home, and fought for something greater than themselves. Their legacy lives on in the families they left behind, in the memories we share, and in the very freedoms we hold dear.

To those who lost loved ones in service, we stand with you. To the heroes no longer with us, we honor you. And as a community, we pledge to keep your stories alive.

Today, let’s take a moment to reflect, to express gratitude, and to carry forward the values they defended.
