Prayers for Loki and South Toms River Police Department

*** UPDATE AS OF 20:30 ***

LOKIโ€™S SURGERY WENT GREAT, HE WILL NOW BE SPENDING THE NIGHT RESTING AND RECUPERATING!! WE ARE HOPEFUL FOR A DISCHARGE FROM THE HOSPITAL AT SOME POINT TOMORROW! We will continue to update as we get information.

๐Ÿพ Update on Loki ๐Ÿพ

Loki will be undergoing preventative surgery sometime this evening to address concerns related to Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV), commonly known as โ€œbloatโ€ or a twisted stomach.

The procedure will be performed not only as a preventative measure to significantly reduce the risk of his stomach twisting in the future, but also to allow the veterinarian to evaluate and confirm whether this may have been the underlying issue responsible for the symptoms he had previously experienced.

Weโ€™re grateful to all of the doctors and staff at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital for taking such great care of Loki!

Thank you to everyone who has been checking in on Loki and wishing him well. ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ’™

โš ๏ธโ›ˆ๏ธ Scattered thunderstorms are forecast to develop across the region again today and tonight. The exact timing and coverage of any severe storms is uncertain, as it will be conditional on how the stable surface air evolves. Storms could linger well into the night. Cooler today, but remaining humid. Stay weather aware!

Be safe all and have a great school year !!!!

Be safe all and have a great school year !!!!

๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ Hard to believe it but......First Day of School is Here! ๐Ÿšธ ๐ŸŽ

The South Toms River Police Department would like to wish all students, families, teachers and staff at South Toms River Elementary School, a safe, successful, and exciting new school year!

As everyone heads back to school, we remind all motorists to please use extra caution in school zones:

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Watch for crossing guards
๐Ÿšถ Be alert for children crossing
๐Ÿš— Obey all posted speed limits

Letโ€™s all do our part to help keep our kids safe as they travel to and from school each day. Give yourself a little extra time this morning and afternoon for increased traffic and inclement weather.

Best wishes to all students for a fantastic school year filled with learning, growth, and success! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ““ ๐Ÿ’ป ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿฆ…

Stay safe All

Our prayers are with Loki and the South Toms River Police Department

Earlier today, Sgt. Kosh and K9 Loki were conducting training exercises in South Toms River when K9 Loki suffered a sudden medical emergency.

K9 Loki was immediately transported to Garden State Veterinary Specialists (GSVS) in Toms River, where veterinary staff were able to initially stabilize him. Recognizing the need for further advanced medical care, South Toms River Police K9 handlers activated the K9 Kona Medevac Program to facilitate an emergency medical transport to Red Bank Veterinary Hospital.

Upon arrival, K9 Loki was evaluated and further stabilized by veterinary specialists. K9 Loki is currently awaiting emergency surgery.

We are extremely grateful to the veterinary professionals, K9 Kona Medevac Program, New Jersey State Police, Ocean County Sheriff 911, Toms River Police Department, Toms River Police EMS IAFF Local 4846, Tracy Connellan, and everyone involved in getting Loki the urgent care he needs.

We ask that everyone keep K9 Loki, Sgt. Kosh, and the South Toms River Police Department K9 Unit in their thoughts as Loki undergoes treatment.

Additional updates will be provided when appropriate.

Back-to-school mornings are coming and once the alarm goes off, there may not be much time to stop and think about sustainability! ๐Ÿ˜ดโฐ

Between getting dressed, finding your shoes, packing your backpack, grabbing breakfast, and getting out the door, it's easy to fall back on whatever is fastest.

Before school starts, try a sustainable school morning rehearsal.๐ŸŽ’๐ŸŒฑ
Pick a morning this week and practice getting ready as if it were a real school day.

The night before, prepare the things you'll want to use again and again:
๐Ÿ’ง Fill your reusable water bottle and place it somewhere you'll see it.
๐Ÿฅช Pack your reusable lunch container so it's ready to grab from the refrigerator.
๐ŸŽ Prepare snacks in reusable containers instead of reaching for individually packaged options in the morning.
๐ŸŽ’ Pack your backpack and make sure everything you need is ready to go.
๐Ÿ‘• Lay out your clothes the night before to save time in the morning.
โ˜• Set out reusable items you'll need, such as a travel mug or utensils.
โ™ป๏ธ Know where your recycling belongs at home, school, or your dorm so you're not guessing when you're in a hurry.
Know what's recyclable in Ocean County here: https://www.co.ocean.nj.us/OC/SolidWaste/frmRecycling.aspx

A little preparation the night before can mean less waste, less stress, and an easier morning. ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŒฑ And remember: you don't have to change everything at once.
Start with one or two sustainable habits and practice them until they become automatic.
