This morning we were honored to celebrate an extraordinary milestone with an amazing Veteran — Geraldine Meyer, who turned 104 years young! We were honored to present her with a Secretary of VA Coin and plaque.

Geraldine's life is a powerful testament to courage, compassion, and resilience. As a young nurse, she served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, caring for wounded soldiers on the front lines of Europe. Geraldine was part of a MASH unit — a mobile surgical hospital that followed the troops in jeeps and lived in tents, bringing critical care where it was needed most.

She served for nearly two years, until Germany surrendered its armed forces — an event known as Victory in Europe Day (VE Day), which occurred on May 8, 1945. Following VE Day, her unit was preparing to deploy to the Pacific theater when WWII came to an end.

After returning home, Geraldine continued her calling in medicine, becoming a nurse anesthetist and devoting the rest of her career to caring for Veterans at the Tucson VA Medical Center.
