The weather is going to Hazy, Hot, and Humid for the next couple of days. The Governor has ordered the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol to be activated effective at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday and remaining in effect through at least 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As a reminder the Town of South Windsor cooling centers are located at the South Windsor Library located at 1550 Sullivan Avenue and South Windsor Community Center located at 150 Nevers Road during normal business hours.
Heat advisories recommendations are:
1) Find air conditioning, if possible.
2) Avoid strenuous activities.
3) Watch for heat illness.
4) Wear light clothing.
5) Check on family members and neighbors.
6) Drink plenty of fluids.
7) Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire until 7 PM EDT
This graphic displays Tornado Watch watch number 353 plotted on a map. The watch is in effect until 7:00 PM EDT. The watch includes parts of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The threats associated with this watch are a couple tornadoes possible, isolated hail up to half inch size possible and scattered gusts up to 80 mph likely.

Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he is releasing $5 million in state funding to support another round of Connecticut’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program. The program provides financial assistance to support infrastructure improvements that increase security measures at facilities belonging to 501(c)(3) organizations that are at heightened risk of being targets of a terrorist attack, hate crime, or violent act.

The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties on Tuesday from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM. As a reminder the Town of South Windsor cooling centers are located at the South Windsor Library located at 1550 Sullivan Avenue and South Windsor Senior Center located at 150 Nevers Road during normal business hours.
If you are under an extreme heat warning recommendations are:
1) Find air conditioning, if possible.
2) Avoid strenuous activities.

Please take the rest of the day and Sunday morning to prepare for the storm. Make sure you have your emergency supplies, water, prescriptions, batteries, and tested generators. We ask that once the storm begins, until the roads are clear, please stay off the roads and stay home. This will help our DPW crews and emergency responders.
