Please take the rest of the day and Sunday morning to prepare for the storm. Make sure you have your emergency supplies, water, prescriptions, batteries, and tested generators. We ask that once the storm begins, until the roads are clear, please stay off the roads and stay home. This will help our DPW crews and emergency responders.

Just a reminder to please clear your fire hydrants and make sure your furnace vents are clear of snow.

Good afternoon,
The coldest air of the season is expected to impact our area for 5 days starting Friday at noon and lasting until next Wednesday at noon. This is expected to be an exceptionally cold period with very low wind chills especially Friday night. The NWS will likely issue cold weather advisories and may issue a few Extreme Cold Warnings during the period. We are also anticipating a potential snowstorm over the weekend. Here’s a breakdown of the expected High and Low Temperatures and Wind Chills from Friday to next Wednesday:

Daytime High / Low Day Min Wind Chill

Friday 29 4 Friday Night -15
Saturday 13 4 Saturday Night 0
Sunday 16 6 Sunday Night -1
Monday 20 15 Monday Night 1
Tuesday 29 16 Tuesday Night 8
Wednesday 32 18 Wednesday Night 15

The Severe Cold Weather Protocol is therefore activated from noon Friday January 23 until noon on Wednesday January 28.

01/17/2026

We are looking at another blast of arctic air to move across our area late Monday to Wednesday midday. Tuesday temps will be well below normal, even for January. This will translate into very cold conditions with high temperatures on Tuesday only ranging between 15 to 25 degrees, which is 10 to 15 degrees below normal temperatures for that time of year.
In addition, we could see wind gusts 20-35 mph Monday night through Tuesday. This will bring wind chill values into the negative single digits to single digits on Tuesday morning and single digits in most spots during the day on Tuesday. Tuesday night, the temperature is also expected to be in single digits.
Therefore, the Governor has activated the Severe Cold Weather Protocols for the State from Monday January 19 until noon on January 21. We want to remind our residents that the Town of South Windsor warming centers are located at the South Windsor Library located at 1550 Sullivan Avenue and South Windsor Senior Center located at 150 Nevers Road during normal business hours. Please check their websites for hours.
